| 1. Help your child stay organized. Periodically, check your child's
backpack and help him/her keep it clean and organized.
2. Check frequently for needed supplies.
3. Practice handwriting skills. Writing legibly in cursive (Alabama COS
goal by end of 5th grade).
4. Check for complete sentences. Begin sentences with capitalization and
end with appropriate punctuation.
5. Check to see if your child can identify the subject and verb in a
sentence.
6. Write a paragraph with a topic sentence.
7. Practice multiplication facts-use flash cards to drill them 5-10 minutes
each day.
8. Review other basic math skills such as addition, subtraction, division,
place value, etc...
9. Encourage your child to read throughout the school
year. Visit the public library!
10. READ, READ, READ, READ ,and read some more!!!!!!!!!!!
