How should I contact the teachers?
There are many ways to communicate with your child's teachers.
If you need
to talk to individual teachers, contact them via email, school
phone or send
in a note. However, if you would like to talk to all teachers,
please let
the homeroom teacher know and she will arrange a time for all to
meet.s is a

When are graded papers sent home?
Please look every Friday for graded papers and other school
related flyers.
This is the time we will send most information home.
Do I need to look over all my child's work?
Yes -- you are a partner on Mondays and Wednesdays. It is vital
you are
aware of what your child is doing. We expect complete, detailed
sentences
in legible handwriting.
Do I need to sign or initial all my child's work?
Yes - - your student needs to know you will be looking at your
work. A
signature indicates you have looked over the work and approve of
the quality
and effort of the assignment.
What if I do not know how to help my child on an assignment?
Please contact the teacher via email to state there is
difficulty on a
particular assignment. If email is not available, please send in
a note the
next day of school so that we may assist the student in learning
the
material. Communication is vital between the parents and
teachers.
What if my child is sick on a home school day?
Communicate with the teachers as soon as possible. An extension
on due
dates can be arranged if teachers are aware of the illness.
What are the teachers' email addresses?
Mrs. Krull: mrs.krull@hotmail.com
Mrs. Triano: mrstriano@hotmail.com
Can I call the teachers at their home?
We do not mind providing you with our home phone numbers;
however, please
use discretion when you call as these are our "off"
days. We do check our
email regularly throughout the HomeBased Learning days.
How long should a HomeBased Learning Day be?
As teachers, we plan lessons that are relevant to the learning.
We do not
want to provide "busy" work just for the sake of having
something to do for
a particular class. Our rule of thumb is the assignment time for
each
subject should be about the same as if it were a regular school
day. For
example, if reading is 45 minutes on a regular school day, then
you should
plan for approximately 45 minutes for reading on an HBL day.
However,
please understand some students work more quickly than others, so
the 45
minutes is an approximation of completion time for the assignment.
Will my child have math homework on Tuesday and Thursday?
YES! In order to gain the necessary concepts in math, please
expect your
child to have at one hour of math homework on Tuesday, Thursday
and Friday
evenings. The student may postpone the work if an HBL day is the
next day;
however, this will make a very long math day for the HBL day.
When will progress reports be sent home?
Progress reports will be sent home 4 - 5 weeks into each
quarter. A
progress report from each teacher/subject will be sent home and
need to be
signed by student and parents. If there are questions regarding
grades,
please notify the teacher of that particular class for
clarification.
What if my child is sick on a school day?
Please notify the teachers and school office of the illness. It
is best to
arrange a time to get work especially if the school day is to be
followed by
a home school day. Your child will get the same amount of time
to make up
work as the time that was missed in school.
Can I expect my child to have homework on the weekends?
Yes - when there are long-term projects assigned. The teachers
will give
sufficient notice of long-term projects plus a rubric
(expectations and
grading criteria) for the project and will be presented to the
students at
the beginning of the assignment. Thus, the student has every
opportunity
for success.
Will my 5th or 6th grader be expected to write in cursive?
No - we would like to emphasize legible handwriting with a
quality
response. At times, we will ask for an assignment to be
completed in
cursive just for practice, but will not assess the assignment
based upon the
handwriting.
