How can I be of help in the classroom?
You can volunteer in the classroom. Here are some examples of
work done by
volunteers in the past. Copying for the students, correcting
math timed
tests, making homework, off-track packets or booklets for the
class,
assisting a student with their work
How can I help if I have limited English language?
You can correct math timed tests in your home and send them back
in a timely
manner the next day.
What if I want to help but cannot come during school?
I can make arrangements with you to meet you after school when my
schedule
permits or you can correct math timed tests in your home and send
them back
in a timely manner the next day. Also, scolastic book orders are
taken
monthly and you can be in charge of collecting, ordering and
distributing
the orders for the class.
Is there any teaching I could assist with?
Yes, the art docent there is a position where the volunteer uses
the Elk
Grove art lessons and teaches the class under my supervision.
Also, you
could help teach science.
When does my child need to dress for PE?
We have grade level PE planned 3 days a week and we have recess
everyday. Thus,
sports shoes are best everyday, however, at at the minimum Tuesday, Wednesday and Fridays.
What if my child isn't feeling well on a PE day?
If your child is ill, please keep them home. If however, they're
recovering
from an illness or have a non contagious illness or injury,
please just
write me a note explaining their condition. If no note is sent,
I will
expect them to fully participate in our PE activity that day.
How can I help my child with their homework?
Homework is practice for your child. It should be done daily. A
little bit of practice every day is much better than doing all
the homework on Monday just to get it done. Check your child's
homework before they practice it WRONG! Check all the finished
homework and sign and return the packet on Friday. Watch for the
homework practice workshop offered by Mrs. Young and come with
your child eager to listen and learn.
How will I know how my child is doing in school?
Talk to your child about their day daily. Look for their
completed work which is sent home at the end of each week with a
weekly progress report note. Be alerted if they do not
understand something from their homework packet. Check their
spelling words and sentences and especially the vocabulary words
from the Open Court selection for the week. They should be able
to use the vocabulary words in a sentence or provide the
definition in their own words by weeks end.
