What is the latest that you will accept work?

I will accept classwork and homework up to 2 weeks after it is due for full credit. There is no credit
given for work submitted after that date.

What is the latest that you will accept online quizzes.

Quizzes are due by the due-date, and there is no make-up or due-date extension.

A quiz is posted on the website two weeks before it is due. This is plenty of time to take the
quiz and submit it online. Computer problems, error messages, personal emergencies etc. are no
excuse.

Consider taking the extra credit exam at the end of the semester if you miss any quizzes to
regain lost points.

Am I expected to read this textbook? What should I read?

Yes. You are expected to read each chapter before the Lecture on the chapter is given. However,
please do not read any of the appendices unless assigned. Do not read each chapter more than
once.

Consider another form of learning (Power Point, self-study quizzes, chapter outlines, lecture
notes) as a way of absorbing the material.

What about class attendance? Can I attend class at IVC if I enrolled at KFLD?

I strongly encourage class attendance. If you miss class at Kentfield, I
urge you to attend the same class at the IVC campus, and vice versa (see
syllabus on the website for relevant dates). You are welcome to attend any
of the class offerings.

Adults have busy work lives, family commitments, as well as
unplanned events that may interfere with attendance. Should you miss class,
you will be losing approximately 3 - 4 points (or 3-4% of your grade) unless you
submit your classwork and homework to me by other means on the dates due or within the
2 week grace period.

How do I get my classwork/homework to you if I miss class?

If you cannot attend class, you may do one of the following:

1)Email me (susanswanforsyth@earthlink.net) your homework and classwork attaching the Excel
working papers to your email

2)mail the work to my home address (1238 San Rafael Dr. Petaluma, CA 94954)

How do I submit online quizzes to you? What if I don't have a computer?

Quizzes are submitted online only. If you do not have a computer, plan to
come to campus computer labs and use one.

To take the quiz, you must fill out your name, email
address, and student id # (usually starts with a M00).
After completing the quiz, select the display printable version button , print your quiz, AND THEN
GO BACK TO THE ONLINE VERSION AND PRESS THE SUBMIT BUTTON. The computer should reply
with a Success message. If it does not, take the quiz again until you receive that message.

Keep your printed quiz, but do not submit it to me for grading. I only accept online quizzes.

What is your grading policy? Is all work assigned required or optional?

My grading policy includes classwork (approx 45% of the
grade), chapter quizzes online (approximately 45%) and homework
(approximately 10%). I give an optional extra credit exam for 20 additional
points (20%). Grading scale: 89.5-100 points = A; 79.5-89 points = B; 69.5-79 points =
C; 59.5-69 points = D; below 59.5 points = F.

All work assigned is optional. You may turn in any mix of classwork, online
quizzes, homework, and the extra credit test. What counts is the point
total at the end. Should you note that you are falling short of your goals,
you cannot make up work that is past the due date and grace period, but can only accomplish
the remaining work not due. Don't let yourself get into this situation.
Turn in all your homework, attend class, and take all your quizzes so that
you will not have to do a closed book test as extra credit to regain lost points.

Where do I find the due dates for all work and quizzes, & class meeting dates?

Consult the syllabus page on this website. It is updated
regularly.

What are your work standards? What's cheating and what's not?

All homework and classwork is to be done neatly, completely and correctly,
and by the due date using pencil or computerized software. Anything short of these standards
will have points deducted from their work.

In class, we will work together in groups to solve problems. You are
expected to pull your own weight in the group and not simply copy others'
hard work. You are expected to come to class having read the chapter and
reviewed the classwork problems that we will be doing in advance.

Online quizzes are given for your convenience. I encourage discussion of the question (not the
answer) among students. If you simply copy another's answers, I consider it cheating.

Classwork and Homework : You may work together in groups, with each person contributing to
the solution. Copying another's homework is, however, dishonest.

Should I see instances of academic dishonesty, you will be asked to leave
the class.

How do I take this course 'Pass/ No Pass'?

If you do not wish to take this course for a traditional letter grade
(A,B,C,D,F), you must choose that option on mycom.marin.edu or submit a letter to Admissions
and Records by February 23 requesting to take this class for a 'pass/no pass' grade. If
you score 69.5 points and above, you will receive a 'pass' for the class,
but no letter grade. If you score below 69.5 points, you will receive a "no
pass" for the class, and no letter grade. 'Pass/No Pass' is an
attractive option for those who are in the course for knowledge only, and do
not wish to do homework, or take quizzes.

What are the important dates and responsibilities for this class?

Consult the Important Dates page of this website for drop / refund / add
dates.

Please note: If you do not show up for the first day of class or for class at all, you are not
automatically dropped.

It is your responsibility to withdraw from the class should you find it necessary.

What are your student work retention policies?

I do not keep student work. If your graded work has not been claimed by the
end of the semester, I throw it out.

May I take this course through Open College?

Yes. This is an attractive option for those who do not want to receive unit credit or grades or take
tests. Pick up an Open College Form at the Admissions office. See page 11 in the Schedule of
Classes. The cost is approximately $324.
