Home of the Soaring Eagles

Welcome to Iron House Elementary School! Iron House is very proud to announce that we were honored as a 2010 California Distinguished School. Thank you parents, students, and staff for your continued support in helping to establish a positive and motivating learning environment for students.

We believe that all children can excel at academics, and that activities and citizenship are just as important. Our students know that we have high expectations for them, and they strive to meet them. We welcome and encourage involvement from parents and the community.

Welcome to the Iron House School Website!

The Iron House Staff is busy preparing for a new school year to ensure academic success for your child. We are proud of our staff and their commitment to excellence. We are a California Distinguished School, and have worked hard to ensure every child reaches their ultimate potential. Throughout the year, teachers are busy assessing students to ensure all benchmarks are being met. We are giving the Houghton Mifflin Summative Assessment and the Math Benchmark Assessments then reviewing results to refer students to the appropriate intervention programs for extra help and differentiating curriculum in the classroom as well.
Be sure to check out the links to teacher websites as well as academic links to sites that will help your child succeed. In addition, each teacher has links designated on their website for their grade level.
As a “Caring School Community” we value having our parents and community members to be a part of our school. If you would like to volunteer call your classroom teacher or our office to help. Our school prides itself in the respectful environment that it provides for our students. Class meetings are held frequently as a part of our culture that gives students a voice in the school community. Children feel empowered to take risks with their learning and to give them a forum to speak out if they feel something needs to change.
As a principal, I am often out on the play ground, cafeteria, or at parent pick up or drop off to ensure your child is safe and to lend an extra hand. I truly enjoy your children and work hard to know who they are and their names and grade levels. I am available to meet with parents, and am willing to help out any way I can to provide a great educational experience for you and your child.
If you have questions or would like to meet with me call me or email me and l will contact you as soon as I can.

Looking forward to a fabulous school year!!
Sincerely,
Michele L. Gaudinier

Early Out Wednesdays Continue for the 2011-12 School Year

Last year, the Oakley Union Teachers’ Association and the Oakley School District agreed to lengthen the instructional day 4 days a week with early release on Wednesdays at all elementary schools. This change will continue for the 2011-12 school year. This will only impact the elementary schools. However minimum days at the middle schools will be moved from Thursdays to Wednesdays to make this more convenient for our families that have students at both the levels.

This change will be a benefit to your student(s) for several reasons. The total number of minutes that your child will receive instruction will increase.
In researching available data on elements of high achieving schools and districts, we have learned that aside from highly qualified teachers, actively involved parents, and ongoing analysis of student data, ample common planning time is needed for teachers. Having an early release day allows teachers to meet and analyze your child’s work and test scores, with the purpose of planning effective instruction to address all student needs.
