Ms. Givens was born and raised in Pacific Palisades, California. She moved
to Malibu during her high school years but continued attending Pali. High.
While at Palisades High, Linda was the Dance Team Coordinator and voted head
cheerleader her senior year (although she wasn't even running for the
position!). Upon graduation Ms. Givens attended Pepperdine University in
Malibu as an Art Major. Her physical education class was Equestrian
Education where she enjoyed learning English show riding and taking the
horse trails through the Malibu mountains. Her other favorite past time was
crusing the Coast Highway in her 1966 convertable Mustang. Linda's next
door neighbor was the sister to Jerry Lewis and Linda's good friend was the
daughter of Don Knotts. Needless to say Linda learned from an early age to
enjoy laughter as often as you can!
After aiding in a Second Grade classroom while attending Pepperdine, Ms.
Givens discovered the joy of working with children! Their family friend was
the Superintendant of Santa Monica schools and Linda asked him where was the
best college to attend if someone was interested in becoming a teacher. His
answer was his old alma mater, Chico State! At this same time UCLA offered
Linda a coveted spot in their Art School...choices, choices, choices. The
rest is history. Ms. Givens came up to Chico and has stayed ever since.
While at Chico State Ms. Givens was Head Cheerleader and always enjoyed
attending all the games possible! Although her family registered her without
her knowing...Ms. Givens was entered into the Miss Butte County pagent!
Thankfully she didn't win but did come in as first runner up!
Ms. Givens still enjoys horseback riding, water skiing (slalom of course),
and anything to do with art.
Ms. Givens has been teaching at Notre Dame for over 20 years. She has been
nominated for the Disney Teacher of the Year (nominations are from past
students wishing to recognize a teacher they felt impacted their life in a
positive way), Whose Who Among Teachers (also nominated by past students),
and has received a certificate of excellence in teaching from the Sacramento
Diocese. She is designated as a "Highly Qualified Teacher" and works with
Butte County Office of Education as a facilitator helping new teachers earn
their clear credentials. Ms. Givens also enjoys volunteering as a CASA
(Court Appointed Special Advocate) for abused and neglected children.
As a teacher Ms. Givens especially enjoys helping each little one discover
the unique special person that God created them to be, and loves helping
them to see that God has a special plan for each of them!
