I am available to help students or meet with parents Monday through Friday: 
before school, during lunch, or after school. However, please schedule an 
appointment with me in advance by e-mailing me at school or home. 

COURSE OBJECTIVIES & EXPECTATIONS
•     This is a college level U.S. History survey course designed to 
prepare you to pass the AP U.S. History test given by the College Board. By 
passing the test you can earn up to eight semester hours of college credit.
•     Success in this course requires seriously committed students who are 
willing to work far above the level required in a regular high school 
history class. I expect every student to attend class, to arrive prepared, 
to participate in a constructive and cooperative manner, and to shoulder the 
responsibility for the class work in a mature and diligent way, without 
whining and complaining. This is a difficult course with potentially great 
benefits. If you are unwilling to do the work, you should be in another 
class.
•     I expect all students in this class to pay for and take the AP U.S. 
History State Exam in May. The deadline for paying for the test is the last 
day of the second quarter. 

STUDENT MATERIALS
•     Pen or pencil, three-ring binder, notebook paper, dividers, 
textbook, and whatever other materials we are currently studying. I will 
provide paper for in class writing assignments. On days when tests are 
given, bring a pencil. I will not provide pencils for student use.

HOMEWORK
•     You should plan for at least one hour of homework every night.
•     You should also be prepared to work on weekends and other extended 
school holidays reading, outlining, and reviewing the text and           
supplemental material. 
•     Textbook: A textbook will be checked out to each student on the 
first day of school. You may use that text without marking in it. You may 
purchase a text online, but it is NOT a course requirement. I encourage you 
to purchase your own text so you are able to highlight specific information, 
and make notes in the margin of the text.

GRADES
A weighted point system is used. Tests = 40% of the overall grade. Projects 
= 30%. Homework = 20%. Final Exam = 10%. There will be opportunities to earn 
extra credit for those students, who complete ALL assigned work during the 
semester.

ACADEMIC INTEGRITY
Violations of academic integrity include, but are not limited to the 
following: cheating, plagiarism, or misrepresentation in oral or written 
form. Plagiarism means presenting someone else’s idea or writing as if it 
were you own. The first offense will be immediate failure of the assignment 
or assessment, and the office will be notified. The second offense will also 
result in immediate failure of the assignment or assessment and will result 
in the administration being notified for a second time, and consequences 
will be administered at that time. 

ABSENCES
The office will determine whether an absence is excused or unexcused. It is 
the student’s responsibility to find out what specific assignments were 
missed, whether she/he is able to make up the assignment, and the due date 
for the missed assignment. Failure to make up the missed assignment by the 
given due date will result in a zero for the assignment. 

If a student misses a test due to an unexcused absence, the test cannot be 
made up. If a student misses lecture or video notes, they need to copy the 
notes from a classmate, or the teacher. Students have one day for each day 
of an excused absence to make up an assignment. All make up tests are given 
on Thursday (at lunch), and students are required to make up the test the 
week they return to school. Students will not be permitted to make up the 
test two or three weeks after it has been given. 

TARDY POLICY
A student will be considered tardy if she/he is not in the room with all 
necessary materials when the tardy bell rings. If another teacher causes the 
student to be tardy, a note or phone call from that teacher is required; 
otherwise, it is considered unexcused. 
•	1st – warning
•	2nd – lunch detention (Thursdays)
•	3rd – referral  

RULES
Students are expected to abide by the following rules at all times:
•	Obey all Wheatland Union High School Rules.
•	Respect your teacher, fellow students, and school property.
•	Do not interfere with another student’s right to learn.
•	Be on time to class regularly. Bring required supplies and other 
materials to class daily. 
•	DO NOT do work for other classes in this class.
•	No food or candy shall be eaten during class - WATER bottles only.
•	DO NOT bring iPod’s or other MP3 players, CD players, or cell 
phones, wireless Internet-capable devices, graphing calculators, or pagers 
to class.

CONSEQUENCES
The following are a list of consequences that student’s may receive who do 
not abide by the rules. 
•	Verbal warning 
•	A one-page essay on the specific behavior 
•	Conference with the student and/or a phone call home
•	Detention (lunch or after school) in my classroom 
•	A referral will be sent to the office
