The next 5th grade book report will be an adventure book report.
Books are due in class by Friday, January 20th. Book report projects
and presentations are due on Wednesday, February 22nd. Adventure
books can be anything from Tom Sawyer and Huckleberry Finn to The
Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe and The Bridge to Terabithia. There
is an adventure book list posted on the Links section of our class
website. If you have any questions, please call me at 731-8400 ext.
119 or email me at cwatters@stceciliaschool.org. The assignments are
listed below. Thank you for your cooperation.
Thank you,
Mr. Watters
1. A New Cereal on the Shelf
Invent a new cereal based on the adventure book that you read. Name
your cereal after your book or its characters. You must also choose a
shape for your cereal, as well as colors and ingredients that go with
your book. Cover an empty cereal box with light colored paper. Here
are the guidelines for each side of the box:
Front – Write the name of your cereal and draw a picture to go with
it. You might draw characters or other pictures to help you sell your
product. Make your cereal box appealing and fun.
Back – Design a game that is based on the story. It can be a puzzle,
a word game, or any other type of fun activity that can be found on
the back of a cereal box. Make sure it includes information from the
book.
Right Side – Under the heading “Ingredients,” list the main
characters and write a sentence about each one. Then describe the
setting (place and time).
Left Side – Write a summary of the book.
Top – Write the title and author of your book. Write your name.
Presentation – Write and deliver a two-minute commercial for your
cereal to the class. Advertise the appealing aspects of your cereal.
2. Story Hat
By folding a 14” x 23” piece of paper, students will crate a story
hat. Students must have the story’s sequence of events illustrated
and labeled around the brim of the hat. On one flap, students will
have the book title and author. On the other flaps, students will
write a summary of the book. The students will present and oral
summary of the book to the class. Hats should be neat and attractive.
