Exciting Building Update!!
As you know, our school has outgrown our current location, and we have been searching for a new building. We have been looking for a building that would better meet our student supervision and space needs while supporting our homeschool families. Due to the many business complexities with closing a purchase on the Mugford building/property, that we had been trying to complete over the past few months, we are now securing another site to lease. This brand new, seven suite, complex is located on South Street right next door to Perfect 10 Gymnastics. Our new location will provide so many opportunities for additional support course offerings, activities, trainings, and meetings all in a more contained complex. Best part is that this new complex will only be used by our program, our families! The entire staff is looking forward to making the move when it is completed. The current thinking is that the project could be completed sometime in January/February. When you get a chance, drive-by, check out our new location, and let us know what you think!

Come Join Us for the Next ‘Tuesday Night Out’ – Introduction to Reading Strategies – December 2nd
If reading is not your student's "cup of tea" - come and learn some simple techniques for improving their decoding/comprehension/spelling skills. From "air-writing" to sight word games to visualization - you will take something home that you can use with your student. Appropriate for grades 2-8. Parent-only workshop will meet at 6:30 in the evening in Classroom A on Tuesday, December 2nd. Questions??? Please contact Shelley Prestage or Margo Hayes.
Workshop Session 3 Sign Ups – December 15th
Sign ups for Session 3 Workshops are December 15th from 1:00 PM to 5:00 PM in Classroom A. Workshop Session 3 begins the week of January 14th and runs through the week of February 13th. The session 3 workshop schedule and class descriptions will be posted on this page the week of December 8th.
Math with Meier: Last Chance to Sign Up for this Valuable Parent Only Workshop, RSVP by November 26th
Come and learn some new and exciting ways to do math at Math with Meier Workshops. Workshops will be held on Mondays from 6:00-7:30 in Classroom A. Please RSVP to Dr. Meier at scmeier@kern.org with your name and phone number to let him know that you will be there. There are three dates to sign up for, so be sure to mark your calendars!

Workshop Session 2 Information
Workshop Session 2 began the week of November 5 and runs through the week of December 12. Please check the ‘Workshop Information Page’ to view individual workshop class assignments, curriculum, and Internet references.
Attendance is vital in these workshops. In the unforeseen event that your child will be absent, please contact the instructor(s) of the course by email before the class.

K-8 Gift Making Christmas Party Parent Organizing Meeting
Calling all creative parents who would like to share their talents at our K-8 Christmas Party. The VOPACT is holding an organizational meeting, Monday, December 1st at 2:30 in Classroom A. Bring your ideas for crafts that the students can make as gifts.
Valley Oaks Tehachapi Oral Language Open House
Enjoy entertaining performances from our students. They've worked very hard and it shows. Cookies and tea will be served. Come and join us Wednesday, December 3 from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in Classroom A.
It's time for our annual Valley Oaks Christmas Program!
When: Thursday, December 11th
Time: 7:00-8:00pm
Where: Mountain Bible Church
Everyone is invited to come and enjoy our Valley Oaks Tehachapi singers and instrumentalists. This year we will have 3 choirs performing, as well as several individual instrumentalists. Bring your family and your Christmas spirit - and enjoy!

Boxtops Reminder
Don't forget to clip and save Boxtops over the holidays! Your resource teacher has some fun holiday collection sheets your student can attach their boxtops to, or you can package them in a Ziploc baggie. Remember to include your student's name, resource teacher's name, and # of boxtops in the bag.
Last day for turn-in will be February 23rd, 2009... and it's coming up soon! The winning student - resource teacher team will each receive a gift certificate... Toys R Us for the student and the restaurant of choice for the teacher!

Tehachapi Community Orchestra Presents G.F. Handel’s THE MESSIAH with the Tehachapi Symphonic Chorus
Celebrate the Christmas season with the Tehachapi Community Orchestra on December 14th at 4:00 PM at St. Malachy’s Church, 407 West “E” Street, Tehachapi. All ages are welcome with free admission (donations welcome).

Halloween Party Photo Album on Shutterfly Photo Site
We have an exciting and safe way to share VOCS Tehachapi school pictures from workshops, fieldtrips, and activities. This site features albums from 2005-06 school years to the present (53 albums in all). Also, parents are able to now post comments and download photos to your personal computer. Ask for the password from your resource teacher, and then go to www.valleyoaks.shutterfly.com enter the password, and then click ok. If you would like to order prints, you will need to sign-up with Shutterfly and order copies or just enjoy the viewing a slideshow.
VOCS Bags of Hope Canned Food Drive
Thanks to everyone for your donations to VOCS's first canned food drive. The collected goods will be delivered to Help and Hope this week. While we wait for the next enrichment session to start we can begin to gather up more food for round two. Starting with Workshop Session 2 on November 5th we will be collecting canned food items for our next community donation. With the holidays fast approaching any help we can give to local charities will be much appreciated. If you do not have a Valley Oaks Student ID, please stop by the Library in Classroom A during library hours Monday and Fridays between 1:00-5:00 to get your picture taken and ID card made.

Free Relaxation and Rejuvenation Retreat – Monday, December 1st at 2:00 PM
Feeling stressed out, over tired, pulled in every direction and the Holidays coming just around the corner? Don’t worry, help is on the way. Come join us for a stress free, mind healing, body rejuvenating hour of fresh air, mild exercise and companionship. Mark your calendar for Monday, December 1st at 2:00 PM. The retreat will begin at Meadowbrook Park in Golden Hills and will start with fresh air breathing exercises while we gently stroll down the nature path. Along the way we will be doing some mild stretching as we bend at the knees to retrieve refuse from the earth. This simple form of exercise is wonderful for increasing circulation, clearing the mind of stress, and invigorating the senses. You’re bound to come away from this experience with a new sense of purpose and calmness.
