Mrs. Etris grew up in Fairfax, Virginia. She received her BS in Psychology
from Fordham University. After returning home to Virginia, she worked at St.
Coletta of Greater Washington as a paraprofessional for a 5-year-old girl with
Autism. This sparked her interested in teaching, and she decided to return to
school for a degree in teaching. While she applied to graduate school, she
worked as a preschool teacher at Little Beginnings Child Development Center in
Arlington, VA.
In January of 2005, Mrs. Etris began her graduate program in the Education
Department at The Catholic University of America. In the Spring of 2005, Mrs.
Etris was placed at Janney Elementary for a practicum teaching experience in
sixth grade (two days a week in Ms. Carpousis' class!). She loved the Janney
School community immediately and hoped to return there someday. As luck would
have it, she was assigned to Janney as a student teacher in Mrs.Walters' class
a year later!
In June of 2006, Mrs. Etris was married in Washington DC, at Holy Trinity
Catholic Church. Before she left for her honeymoon in July, she was ecstatic
to hear from Scott Cartland, offering her a Third Grade teaching position at
Janney! Last year she looped with her class to Fourth Grade--a wonderful
experience! She is extremely happy to be teaching Fourth Grade again this year.
Mrs. Etris lives in Alexandria, Virginia with her husband Bob, and two
shnauzer-poodle mixes, Ernie and Oscar.
