I have been teaching children of different ages for many years and I
love teaching more than anything I do! I studied vocal performance at
Lycoming College adn received a BALS from the University of Delaware in
Theater in Education and a BS in Education.
Before to coming to St. Matthew's in 2002, I held many interesting
jobs. Some of my favorites: Director of Peninsula McCabe School, Education
Director, Brandywine Zoo, Education Director, Historical Society of Delaware
and Education Instructor at Delaware Technical and Community College.
However I think the very best age to teach is fourth and fifth grade and I
am very glad to be a teacher at St. Matthew School.
I have lots of hobbies and interests such as gardening, sewing,
quilting and knitting, furniture refinishing, and reading about science,
but my real passions are theater and music. I have directed about 70 plays
and musicals and performed in many more. I enjoy directing the St. Matthew
School Mass Choir.
I also have a very strong interest in Service Learning. I believe it
is essential for each of us to recognize how much we have been blessed and
to find ways to share those blessings with others. My classes each have an
annual service project (who can forget the 250,000 pennies, the beautiful
quilts for the residents at the Antonia, or the $5.00 Project!)
I love watching college football and basketball. I am a huge fan of
Notre Dame football and Villanova Basketball. My students all know about my
Notre Dame fixation, because when Notre Dame wins on Saturday, there is no
homework on Monday!
I have a Mr. Donovan, who is a lawyer, teacher, and sometime actor (he
plays "old guys") and three grown-up children. My son, Bob, is getting his
Masters Degree in Medical Studies at Drexel and will be a Physician's
Assistant. He working all around the country right now - but when he is in
Wimington, he lives with us. My daughter, Polly (Miss Donovan),spent three
years teaching Science in St. Matthews Middle School. She recently got her
Masters Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math Education from
Tufts University and now teaches 8th Grade Science in JARKARTA, INDONESIA. I
miss her a lot, but we have many phone conversations. We are planning some
interesting joint activities between our two schools. My son, Rory, is a
singer, performer, Karaoke MC, and college student at the University of the
Arts in Philadelphia. He lives in Center City, Philadelphia. Rory has
helped out with the school musicals and has worked with the Mass Choir. He
often sings at St. Matthew's school Masses and he enjoys dropping in at
recess for a game of touch football.
I also have a "teenaged" puppy named Penny who was born on December 5th,
2007, Penny is a mix of Jack Russell Terrior and Pug. She is a very active,
rambunctious character and keeps me hopping!
To grow in intellect, curiosity and spirit.
To learn established ideas and be open to the unfamiliar.
To pursue these goals as individuals and teammates, developing compassion,
empathy, and pride our own accomplishments and the accomplishments of others.
To recognize the remarkable gift that is life, and to live in a way that
reflects God's trust in us by bestowing this gift.
