5. Pop Corn and a Movie for the entire class when 30 marbles are earned.
6. Pizza and Music for the entire class when 50 marbles are earned.
CONSEQUENCES:
1st time: Oops! Did I forget?- This could be a verbal or visual reminder that
the student is off task and not following classroom rules. This will not
count against the student as it's typical for children to need a slight
reminder sometimes. As long as they use the reminder wisely and go back to
work. The student will still be allowed to earn a star for the day.
2nd time: I need a break- The student is asked to take a break from a
situation that might be causing him/her some distraction and is affecting
his/her work habits and following of the rules. The student is to sit quietly
in order to re-gain control over the situation. This could be a 10 second
mental reflection, or a 5 minute mental reflection. They take some deep
breaths, think about what they need to be doing, and go back to their work.
No stars will be awarded.
3rd time: Time away to think- If taking a break doesn't work for a child's
self-control, they will be sent to Think Time, which is a desk set up in our
classroom. This is a way for students to reflect on their behavior. Think
Time has two parts. The first part is to complete a Thinking Sheet on what
happened, why they acted the way they did, and what they can do next time to
avoid a recurrence. The second part is to just sit and think for about 3
minutes about the situation a little further, and then they may return to
their table. The reflection will be signed and read by me, and then sent home
to parents so that they are aware of the day's events. No stars will be
awarded.
4th time: A visit to the principal- If none of the above strategies work for
a student, they will be sent down to the office to discuss the situation with
administration. Parents will be contacted as well.
Other consequences are as follows:
If you speak to someone in a disrespectful way, you will be fined $5 the
first time, $10 the second time, and $25 the third time. You will also visit
the principal's office.
