Weekly News

12/1/08-12/5/08

  • We are excited to announce the annual 3rd grade Christmas Songfest to be held on December 5th. Please make plans to join us Friday morning for this special performance. Performance will begin at 8:30a.m. in the LHES  cafeteria.
  • We are scheduled to take a tour of Bay Medical Center on December 15th. This is an extremely interesting and informative tour. The cost of the trip is $3.00. Permission slips and money are due by December 4th. The hospital will provide us with lunch from subway. Students should wear their class t-shirts the day of the trip
  • Our class will visit the book fair on Tuesday, December 2nd from 10:30-11:00. The book fair will be open all week.
  • Please join us for the 3rd Parent/Teacher Chili Cook-Off Thursday, December 4th. It will be held from 6 -8 PM in the LHE Cafeteria. Drinks(cans) and dessert donations are needed. Please pre-register to enter the cook off by December 2nd. For more information email:   mcguice@bay.k12.fl.us
  • Our class is now registered on the Harcourt Reading Series Website students can now log onto the site and access the entire reading textbook, practice workbook, and grammar workbook online. The site is thinkcentral.com. Your child's login is their last name and first inital. (Example:   my login would be harveya) The password is your child's lunch number. Please let me know if you have trouble accessing the site.

Reading

  • Story of the week: "A Tree is Growing" Pg 370-395
  • Focus Skill: Author's Purpose and Using Graphic Aids (Bar Graph)
  • Robust Vocabulary: (Word list and definitions can be found under "Robust Vocabulary" on the homepage.)
  • Phonics and Spelling: Words with soft c and soft g. (Pg 366-367)
  • Grammar: Subject and Object Pronouns

Each Friday your child will be assessed on the story of the week. This assessment will include a section on comprehension which includes a written response question, phonics/spelling, the focus skill, vocabulary, and fluency.

Writing

  • Rough Draft
  • Final Draft
  • DOL Week 8 (Assessment on Friday)
  • Cursive: Capital D, P, R, B

Math

  • Telling and showing time to the minute
  • Rounding a number to the nearest hundred. Estimating sums and differences of three digit numbers.
  • Comparing fractions with denominators of 2, 3, and 6
  • Writing a fraction to show a part of a whole. Adding and subtracting fractions.

Science

  • Chapter 7 "Rocks and Soil" Pg 193-215
  • We will have an open book partner quiz on chapter 7 on Friday
