A Few Important Reading Updates
Our Bag Book Report is due on October 20th (Tuesday). It is for a Reading
grade and quality of project as well as an oral presentation will be taken
into account. Have your child verbally tell you what the story was about in
addition to writing a short summary on the bag.
Also, the AR testing period for the first quarter will be from Oct. 5 through
Oct. 26. Goals will remain the same for now. The goal MAY be modified as the
deadline approaches if the teacher deems it necessary. I am currently reading
the class a 1 point book in which they will all take an AR Quiz on and thus,
help reach their goal faster. We will soon be reading the novel FRECKLE JUICE
as a class and doing in-class activities with this story as well taking an AR
Quiz on it.
Keep reading those AR books and don't forget to TICKET TO READ! I will be
receiving a weekly email update on the minutes each child is reading. Don't
worry if your child is unable to go on frequently (it is not for a grade);
however, the 2 students with the most minutes (weekly) will receive a ticket
and two treats as an incentive.
We have also started Successmaker (a computer program that enhances reading
and math). Your child is placed at a level in which he or she is capable of
working at and then keeps progressing to a more difficult level once your
child has mastered the previous level. Thus, it works with your child's
individual needs. It also keys in a strands s/he may be having difficulty in.
