What materials are needed in class?
Students need three duo-tang folders for class. One of them is turned in to me the first week of
class, to be used as a review folder as we review for the AP exam. One is for Vocab, and the last
one is used for class notes and handouts. Looseleaf paper is needed, and blue or black ink pens.
I also request students to purchase an AP Psychology review book. The one that my students
find most helpful is "5 Steps to a 5". It can be found at local bookstores and also purchased from
Amazon. Please try to obtain your review book during the first three weeks of school.
What is Ms. Chauvin's policy on accepting late work?
Late work is NOT accepted. To do so would promote irresponsibility
What are makeup tests like? When can makeup work be done?
Tests will be made up in class the day the student returns to school (if
student was present when test was announced). Makeup tests will cover the
same material as the original test but will NOT necessarily contain the same
questions. Makeup tests are ESSAY in nature. To avoid the essay makeup, students can either
1)take the test early or 2) be at school (my room) NO LATER than 7:00 am their first day
back in school following the test. If the test isn't taken by 7:40 AM, then makeup policies apply
and the makeup test will be essay in nature. Bottom line: don't miss tests!
How can I contact Ms. Chauvin?
Click on the mailbox in upper right hand corner of Ms. Chauvin's home page.
Please feel free to email Ms. Chauvin regarding any questions, comments, or
concerns you might have. Please put your name and period in the subject line
of your email, as Ms. Chauvin does NOT open email from anyone she doesn't
recognize.
Is extra credit given?
Since this is an AP class and your grade is weighted, extra credit is not
given at the end of the quarter. That being said, you may earn 5 extra points
on each test by obtaining an 80% or better on that chapter's practice test
from the Nevid textbook website. Check the "Nevid Practice Tests" page.
Are 'Senior Skip Days' condoned by MSD?
No, they are NOT. In addition, the due dates of class assignments or tests
will not be altered in any way because of so-called "senior skip days."
What is Ms. Chauvin's attendance policy?
Ms. Chauvin's attendance policy is the same as the Broward County Schools'
attendance policy. Please read your discipline code book for further info.
What is Ms. Chauvin's policy on tardies?
Students need to be in class on time every day. Ms. Chauvin follows the
district's and school's policy on tardies, which is to issue detentions for
habitual tardiness.
What is the best way to contact Ms. Chauvin by phone?
Should you prefer to contact her by phone, you may reach her at 754-322-2150,
ext. 3109. Please call before 7:30 AM or after 2:40 PM.
What about family vacations/trips during the school year?
Since the school year calendar is published at the beginning of the year,
please try to schedule all trips during times when school is not in
session. It is a monumental task for students to try to make up work for
seven classes for several days. Attending school should be a priority.
How can I improve my grade in AP Psychology?
The best advice for improving one's grades in AP Psych is simple: attend
school every day, pay attention and take good notes in class, read the
textbook, don't wait until the last minute to do the vocab, complete the study
guide as you read, study for tests, and do the practice quizzes from the Nevid
website.
Remember, this is a college-level class, and as such, you are held to a higher
degree of accountability for your grades than you may have been in other
regular classes you may have had in the past.
How can I pass the AP test ?
In addition to keeping a good notebook, reading the text, and learning the
material as we cover it during the first three quarters, there ARE other
things you can do to improve your chances of passing the AP test.
Purchase an AP Psychology review book early in the year and use it as we cover
the material. (More info. on these books will be given in
class and posted on this website)
Finally, once we start reviewing for the test, actively participate in the
review. Most students find the in-class review extremely helpful in preparing
for the test. We had a pass rate of 84% last year, and many students who
never expected to pass not only passed, but earned a "4" or "5"! If you
want it badly enough, you CAN do it!
Remember, you earn college credit for passing, so you'd be saving yourself one
semester of college work! :-)
