Bring the final draft  of your speech Friday.  Be sure to have someone at home proofread it 
and be sure to have a very clear conclusion such as a call to action.  Your reading log is due this Friday.
 
 
 
Week Fourteen: Keep reading! I'll check AR results for the first four and a half week 
report Thursday after homeroom. Join me for a Super Sentence study session Thursday
 morning at 8:15 if you think it will help you.  
 
Begin work on the draft of your persuasive  speech for the pageant. The draft will be due Monday.  
Type it in large font - 18 - 20 point? - and skip spaces between lines to make it very readable.  
Keep working on your creative costume and accessories for the pageant! Please remember that no 
purchases are required.  Be creative with found objects/accessories from home!!! :}
 
 
Week Thirteen: This  week we're continuing our work on reading skills.
One sentence summaries of the stories we have read in class and the 
Power Point presentation guide are due Wednesday, along with pages 21-24 
in the brown workbook.  Election Day is a student holiday! 
 
 
Congratulations to Davis, Rebeca, Madison, and Martin for having their stories 
chosen by their classmates as the best stories during the storytelling festival 
we held on Halloween day!!!
 
 
Finish brown workbook pages 25-28 for Friday. Be SURE to revise your
Power Point guide for me to check tomorrow(Friday) as this has to be done before 
you can go to the computer to begin work on your Power Point show on
Monday.
 
 
 
Week Twelve: This  week we're working on  summarization and editing skills both
in written responses to our reading and  in the creation of an original narrative.
 
Finish the final draft of the narrative to read aloud Friday.  Please type it  - 12 point -
Times New Roman.  Be sure to spell check and to have another proofread.  
 
Continue your work on the one sentence summaries in response to the stories and work also 
on the Power Point planning guide.  These will all be due next Wednesday. 
 
 
 
 
Week Eleven: This  week we continue to refine our editing skills with Super Sentence practice,  and
our reading  skills are getting an excellent workout with our responses to the story collections we
are studying. 
 
 
For Wednesday,  be prepared to tell me the name and identity of the character you are 
planning to portray for the pageant. 
 
For Friday of this week:  Finish the charts  and the definitions of the last ten 
words on the second page of your packet.  Your reading log will also be due Friday. 
 
Keep reading! Another reading log will be due in two weeks. :}
 
Week Ten: This week we continue our focus on reading comprehension,  writing skills,  and editing skills.   
 
The final draft of the creative description paper is due this Wed, Oct.  15.  It should have a minimum of eight
great sentences and should be typed - 12 point Times New Roman font.  Use the Greek/Latin roots collection you 
received in class to complete your ten "neologisms"  and write each one on an index card for class Thursday. 
 
Continue  reading the story collection.  On Friday we will continue that work after taking the benchmark tests.
Keep Reading! The log will be due next Friday. 
 
 
 
Week Nine: This week we focus on reading comprehension,  writing skills, and editing skills.  
 
Complete the preposition practice station work for Tuesday - brown workbook pages  33-36 and red workbook 
pages 343-344.
 
After reviewing  the "Arachne" story,  write a very thorough one paragraph summary of the story. This should 
be at least eight sentences long.  Be sure to type it - 12 point Times New Roman  - and have it proofread at home. 
This will be due Wednesday. 
 
The final draft of the preposition treasure map is due Friday. Be SURE to follow those directions!!!

Week Eight: 
 
This week we visit the media center and focus on refining grammar and editing skills.  We practice with Super Sentences and work in 
centers to practice with prepositional phrases.   No written HW for Monday or Tuesday evenings!  Bring your reading textbook to class Friday and Monday.
 
For next Tuesday, compete the station work that you did not complete in class (red and brown workbook activities). After reading the 
"Arachne" story in class on Friday, write a very thorough one paragraph summary of the story. This should be at least eight sentences long. 
Be sure to type it - 12 point Times New Roman  - and have it proofread at home. This will be due NEXT Wednesday.  The final draft of 
your preposition treasure map ( Follow those directions!)  and your next reading log will be due Friday, October 10.

Week Seven:
 
For Tuesday, finish your first draft of your narrative and go ahead and type it - 12 pt. Times New Roman font...black ink only!
Be sure to run spell/grammar check AND have someone at home proofread. Also for Tuesday, complete the Revision Reflection page 
(about your narrative) from the green packet.  For Wednesday, complete the questions from the Helen Keller excerpt. 
 
 The final draft of the narrative (along with the prewriting and pencil draft ) will be due 
this Thursday.  Make sure it is typed and printed in black ink - 12 point Times New Roman font. 
Your reading log will be due Friday.  Please get the Advanced Content class form signed and return it if you 
did not already do so!!!
 
No written HW for next week! Keep reading!!! The last day for AR testing for the nine weeks will be Monday, October 6. 
 (If you are choosing to read a non-AR book and want AR credit,  you can choose to write a one and a half to two page very 
good summary of the book.  This summary must be handwritten in blue or black ink and not typed!)
 
 
Week Six (Already! Can you BELIEVE five weeks have already gone by?!?!?!?!):
 
This week we will write the personal narrative essay and are continuing our study of grammar. 
We have brainstormed sensory details that would suit the subjects of our narratives and we'll 
proceed to prewriting and drafting the narrative.
 
 Finish the Life Graph in color for Tuesday. Finish the red workbook activities from last week 
for Wednesday if you did not already do so ( pgs. 13-15, 17, 23-25, 31, and 33-35.) You may omit the additional 
writing activities at the bottom of pages 23 and 31. Finish your narrative prewriting and write your opening 
sentence for Wednesday.
 
 
We CONGRATULATE our "Write a Great Introduction" contest winners: Gabi, Ingrid, Tommy, and Katey!!!
For Thursday, read " My Sister the 'Lifesaver'" in the WAG book(pg. 50) which you should be keeping at home. Write answers to these 
two questions: 1) Why is lifesaver in quotation marks? 2) Which is stronger - the story's introduction or conclusion? 
Explain your answer.  Get your progress report signed for Thursday!!!
 
No written HW for Friday. Read and think of ideas to include in your narrative draft that we will continue writing on Friday. :}

Week Five:
 
This week we are preparing to write the narrative essay and are continuing our study of grammar.
 We wrote the first journal entry and will be reading "Passage to Freedom" as a fine example of narrative. 
 
 Complete brown workbook pages 41-42 and the Reading Detective activity for Wed.  Finish reading "Passage to Freedom" - reading 
textbook page 52- if you did not already do so. Review it for a test on Friday of this week. Your signed and totaled reading log will also 
be due this Friday. Bring your reading textbook the rest of this week.  Finish the 2nd column (sensory details from Hatchet) in the green 
packet for Friday. Also bring colored pencils to class Friday!
 
 We'll visit the Media Center again Monday, so plan to take another AR test then it at all possible. 
Progress reports go home next week, and I'll record the AR tests taken and passed on that report.
 
This weekend please keep up your great reading! Complete your life graph in color for next Tuesday.
 Finish any of the red workbook activities you did not yet finish for Wednesday of next week. :}
 
 
 
 
Week Four:
 
This week we are working on editing our work. We have used the digital presenter to review our work as "Eagle Eye Editors"!  
Complete brown workbook pages 3-6 for Thursday. Also record in your planner and total all books you have finished reading. 
We will also have the second parts of speech (PAVPANIC ) test Thursday. Complete red workbook pages 6-8 for Friday. 
B.E.A.R. Day Friday! Your reading log will be due one week from Friday.
 
 
 
 
 
Week Three:
 
 
This week we begin preparing to write personal narratives and are
studying great examples of descriptive writing. Today we 
enjoyed reading from James Herriot's All Creatures Great
and Small. 
 
Finish the final draft of your descriptive paragraph about an event that 
happened the first day of school this year. Be sure to use strong verbs and include
good sensory details. Include an original intro and a good conclusion. 
 
Complete brown workbook(BW)
pages 1-2 and red workbook (RW) page 4 for Friday. 
Also bring an example of great descriptive writing from a fav book.
We will read these aloud in class Friday.
 
STUDY for the Parts of Speech definitions test using your flash cards.
That test will be this Friday. Your reading log is also due Friday.
Be sure to total your number of minutes and get your parents to 
sign using a full signature. 
 
Week Two:
 
Hope your first week was wonderful!!!  This week we begin our practice
with editing skills and our analysis of great descriptive writing. 
We'll begin reading the excerpt fromHatchet tomorrow. Finish it and 
the Hatchet response sheet for Wed. Bring your red reading textbook
 to class every day this week. Be sure to work on your Brown Bag Biography 
for Thursday. Summer reading cards will be collected this Fri., Aug. 22. 
Also finish the eight Parts of Speech flash cards for Friday using the list in
 your Lang. Arts Handbook. Review Hatchet for a test on Friday!
 The first reading log will be due Friday, Aug. 29. Keep reading at home!!!
Begin studying for the PAVPANIC (Parts of Speech definitions) test 
that will be next Friday. Use your flash cards to study! 
Have a GREAT weekend!!! :}
 
Week One:
 
Hope your first day was wonderful!!!  Please have your parents 
sign the second sheet of the letter packet you received. Share the letters from me with your parents. 
Also finish the Multiple Intelligences activity we began in class. Please bring contact info for Mom and Dad
(email/cell). Summer reading cards will be collected Fri., Aug. 22. Begin reading at home 20-30 minutes per night 
on average.  Have all supplies by Monday. We enjoyed sharing the results of the multiple intelligences activity. 
Finish the letter to Ms. Crockett  for Thursday.  Use the directions on the rubric you received in class. 
Be sure to return signed papers and your multiple intelligences graph in color if you did not already 
do so!  WE enjoyed our first trip to the Media Center for Orientation and then enjoyed B.E.A.R.(Be 
Enthusiastic About Reading) time afterwards. Be sure to work on your Brown Bag Biography.
