Frequently Asked QuestionsFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How will I know how my child is doing? In your child's Kendrick Handbook, there is a list of dates for progress reports and report cards. I will try to send a progress report home every two weeks. I will be happy to email the progress report to you if you will provide me with your email address. You may also call the counselor's office and set up a conference with me at any time. How can I help my child succeed? Check this website frequently. Assignments, homework, projects, test dates, and due dates will be posted. Help the student learn new vocabulary words and meanings that conincide with the current chapter. Vocabulary is very important when it comes to understanding what is being discussed or what might be on a test. Stress the importance of keeping up with assignments and studying on a daily basis. The student must bring materials to class with him/her every day. You can help by assuring that he/she has adequate supplies. (See the course syllabus section for materials needed). Attendance is also important for success. Work that is missed must be made up. Encourage him/her to keep a notebook organized, to be engaged in class, Re- read and study information nightly, turn in assignments on time. Show respect for himself/herself, the teacher and peers! Do you give extra credit assignments? No. If the students keep up with their work on a daily basis, attend class regularly, complete projects given and study for their tests, there will not be a need for extra credit. Does my child have a textbook? A textbook will be assigned to your child. This must be brought to class each day as a part of materials that are needed. All of our work will not come from the text book. However, it is a necessary item to have with them. Yes. The student will have homework on a daily basis. Homework includes; reading an RC book, reading a section of the chapter, studying vocabulary words (vocabulary is a daily assignment - not always paper and pen - but reviewing and learning the meaning of words), a project, an essay, questions and anwers. How can I contact you? (Mrs. Stephens) You can call the school (706-565-2960) and leave a message. I will return your call as quickly as I can. You may call guidance to make arrangements for a conference. You may also email me through this website or through Muscogee County's website (sstephens@mcsdga.net). What do DNA and INC mean on the progress reports? DNA (Did Not Attempt) means that the student did not turn in a paper for that assignment. INC (Incomplete) means that the student turned in work, but did not complete the assignment. A 0 (zero) means that the student received a zero for the assignment because it was not done. Can work be made up if a DNA , INC, or a zero was received? A student will receive a 0 and not be allowed to make up work if he/she did not put forth an effort in class, if he/she slept during class, if he/she did not participate during class, if he/she was a distraction to others attempting to complete assignments. Once a progress report is given, the student will have 3 days to make up DNA's and INC's. Once the 3 days have passed, the student will receive a 0 and will not be able to make up the work. |
