| Reading:
Thank you for keeping track of the October Reading Logs for your child...the
minutes are quickly adding up. We hope November will be filled with as many
avid readers as we can get! We are all nearing our 10,000 minute mark, and
the best part is that everyone is pitching in to help us reach that goal.
Spelling:
As you can see, these are government words are again a theme in our spelling
words this week. The -es, ed words are a good review of our plurals from
our Shurley grammar. Next week we will have words that relate to our study
of the government and voting process. These words are a little more
difficult, but help us make connections to our in classroom learning and
our "real world" learning.

Here are some quick and easy ways to review for our weekly Spelling
assessments:
>Have your child find words that have suffixes in them as they read their
books at home.
>Give a definition of the word instead of the word itself...this will help
develop vocabulary as well.
>Have your child use the word in a sentence (orally or in written format)or
have them tell you the definition of the word.
>Have your child identify different vowel or consonant patterns in the
week's list.
>"I'm thinking of a word that has a suffix that is added to the base word
(root word) loud.
>Which spelling word rhymes with...?
The process doesn't have to be a cumbersome one...just a simple way to help
your child to success!
