* Jason Johnston, IB Coordinator, Melanie Payne, Fifth Grade Teacher, and Sidney Baker, Principal, attended the 2011 International Baccalaureate Americas Conference in San Antonio in July. Sarah Smith continues to be recognized as a leading school in IB organization. Ms. Payne presented a session during the conference.

 

* Dr. Sidney Baker was selected to attend the IB Academy in St. Louis, Missouri, in June.  He, along with Jason Johnston, is authorized by IB as a workshop leader and site evaluator for the IBO.

 

* Sarah Smith Elementary hosted the area's Great Books training. Representatives from Sutton Middle School, Inman Middle School, and various schools around the state attended.  We will be hosting the Great Books Preview breakfast for principals and adminsitrators from around Georgia in September.

 

* Sarah Smith Elementary has been named a Great Books Lab School by the Great Books Foundation.  We are featured in the 2011 GBF catalogue.

 

* Sarah Smith Elementary welcomes new faculty and staff for 2011-2012: Tara Kramer, Kindergarten; Chrissy Bauch, first grade; Becky O'Meara, first grade; Alfonso Champion, first grade; Kathy Barker, fourth grade; Mona Parker, fifth grade; Joshua Fleming, music; Carmen Smith, art; Betty Jackson, PE; Michelle Thompson, speech therapist; Elizabeth Kempton, speech therapist; and LaTonia McDaniels, guidance counselor.  The quality educators join the team of the finest educators in Georgia. * Dr. Sidney Baker will be representing Sarah Smith Elementary at the IB World Conference in Singapore in October.  The conference is held every two years and is designed to share IB with heads of schools from around the world.
