Introduction to World Languages

Purpose:

To promote appreciation of and respect for all world languages and cultures;

to foster an interest in further language study;

and to gain insight into our own native language.

 

Syllabus 2007-2008

 

 

Week One:

World Greetings

 

Forms of Communication

 

Careers and Foreign Languages

 

 

Week Two:

Languages of the World & History of Languages

 

Words & the Structure of Language

Weeks Three and Four:

French and the Francophone World

Weeks Five and Six:

Spanish and the Hispanic World

Week Seven:

Germany and the German-Speaking World

Week Eight:

Russian and the Russian Culture

Week Nine:

Chinese, China and Its People

 

 

**Note: The order in which languages are taught may vary each quarter.

 

 

GUIDELINES

 

1.

RESPECT yourself and others. Absolutely no put-downs, teasing, vandalism or defying the teacher will be tolerated. Ridicule and negative criticism have no place here. Severe behavior will result in detention and a phone call home.

2.

Be prepared. Be in your seat with all class materials & completed homework when the bell rings.

3.

No food or gum. We need to be able to pronounce properly and communicate effectively.

4.

Participate! Participation is vital to learning. The only way to learn a new language is to USE it!

5.

SMILE! Have an open mind and a positive attitude.

80-89% = B

70-79% = C

 

 

 

60-69% = D

 

 

 

59% or below = F
