I chose to become a teacher because I want to dedicate my life to something
of consequence. I can think of nothing more important and meaningful than
helping others realize their fullest potential. I firmly believe that
everyone is capable of achieving his or her dreams, so long as he or she
receives the necessary support, guidance, and, most importantly, education.
There are numerous reasons I decided to become an English teacher. The two
most important of which being my love for literature and the belief that the
language arts alter lives. The ability to read, write, and communicate
effectively can greatly influence the course of an individual's life. I am
proof of this and believe that students can ascend to higher planes in life
if they are skilled in the language arts. I intend to increase my students'
abilities to read, write and communicate, while sharing the immense joy of
literature.
My motivation and passion for teaching at Steinmetz Academic Centre are
personal. As a product of the Chicago Public School System, I have first
hand knowledge of the unique challenges facing our students. Personal
experience has shown me the value and importance of a high school
education. As an educator, I aim to inspire, motivate, and instill a love
of learning in those around me. It is my goal to make a difference in the
lives of those I teach; I want to provide them with the key to positively
change their lives forever: a good education.
In addition to teaching reading, I host a weekly writer's workshop and coach
the freshman boys' basketball team.
The primary objective of this course is to teach students how to read with
skill and purpose. This ability will enhance students' reading
comprehension across the content areas, resulting in higher levels of
academic success in high school and beyond. Additionally, this course
intends to instill in its students a love of reading.
