FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
Indicate on your registration form for Northwood High School by indicating band as a choice of electives. With our 7 period schedule, students have plenty of room in their schedule for participation in band along with the other required courses for graduation. Students pursuing TOPPS scholarships will also have little trouble participating in band while satisifying the requirements for TOPPS. Are college scholarships available for band? YES! Many of our NHS band students are enjoying financial assistance through band scholarships at our area universities. Band scholarships can range from $600 per semester to full tuition. Scholarships are also available for our flag corp and twirling as well. We have a yearly band fee of $75 we assess each student at the beginning of the school year. This fee is used for cleaning the band uniform 2-3 times a year, travel expenses, honor band tryout and registrations fees, and our offical band polo shirt. Do I have to have my own instrument to participate in band? We furnish the larger instruments such as tuba, french horn, baritone, and the larger clarinets and saxophones. We also furnish percussion for marching and concert band as well. Students who play the smaller woodwind and brass instruments are asked to purchase their own instrument if they do not already own an instrument. How do I become a member of the Flag Corp? Tryouts are held each spring to select our flag corp for the upcoming school year. Tryouts are open to all students inclucing entering freshman at Northwood High School. |
