TEXT: Civics Today: Citizenship, Economics, & You, Glenco/McGraw Hill, 2007
OBJECTIVE: Civics is the study of citizenship and government. When thinking about the relationship between these two concepts we must understand what each does for the individual. Government protects our rights and provides benefits in turn for accepting certain responsibilities. Citizenship teaches what these responsibilities are including, becoming informed on how government works, how it affects our lives, and how we can make it operate better. This course covers the organization and function of government at the national, state, and local levels. It examines the founding principles and ideals of the American system of government, and will identify the goals and requirements of good citizenship in a free society. It is a required course from the social studies component for graduation.
