SCIENCE FAIR

ZACHARY HIGH SCHOOL

SCIENCE FAIR TIMELINE 2007-2008

Dear Parents,

Every Biology student must design a science project for our school science fair. Science fairs not only stimulate interest in scientific investigation beyond what is covered in the classroom but also display scientific talent through exhibits and demonstrations. Also, this activity will effectively enable our students to master the scientific inquiry component of the GEE.

Students may work as individuals or in groups, but only two students in a group and both students must have the same science teacher. Please understand that while we encourage students to work cooperatively, there are drawbacks to working in groups. We all know that sometimes one member does more work than the others do on the project. No matter the amount of work a student completes in the group project, every member of that group will receive the same grade. This may be an issue for you to discuss with your student. Another issue is that when they work in groups, different schedules make it difficult to meet. The due dates will not change because of a conflict in schedule.

Note: It is up to the teacher to determine if projects are challenging enough to require two students.

This science project is worth 200 points and will be completed outside the normal class time. Parents, although your help is extremely important in providing the necessary materials and in monitoring your child’s progress, please do not do your child’s project for them.   Help us make this the best science fair ever!
