I forgot to complete my homework assignment. What can I do?
Each quarter students get 3 homework coupons. Homework will only be
taken one-day late if you use a coupon. These are not to be used for
projects
or presentation.
I still have 2 homework coupons not used. What happens to them?
Any of your homework coupons not used will be collected and turned into 5
points extra credit at the end of the quarter.
I was absent from Science Class today, What do I do?
MAKE-UP Work is the responsibility of the student. Students have the same
number of days to make-up assignments as days they miss. Before turning in
make-up assignments the student must have me initial the assignment (after
showing me their excused admit slip). There are no make-up assignments for
unexcused absences.
Please ask a classmate what the homework and classwork assignments were.
All handouts from the day are in the out folder with you name on it.
My textbook is heavy, do I need to bring it to class everyday?
NO. Textbooks should be brought to class only when requested.
I seem to do awful on test and quizes, are there other assignments?
The following items may be used in measuring a student's progress. Not all
items apply each quarter. Teacher-constructed test/County Assessments,
Research papers or projects, Homework,Class Work, Quizzes
nnounced/unannounced), Notebook Quizzes,outside reading assignments,
Performance tests on lab work,Daily Class Assignments, Lab Reports, and Lab
Performance
Do I still need to get the obj., and dril when absent?
YES. Notebook quizzes (worth 10 points) will be given and an organized
notebook will ensure perfect score. Reminder: Be sure to get all notes,
including drills and objectives, when you are absent.
Any student copying another students notes on the day of a notebook quiz
will earn a zero.
Do I need a 3 ring binder for this class?
All students must keep notes, handouts, problems, assignments, and lab
reports in a suitable three-ring notebook. This will help when studying for
exams and quizzes. Notebooks should have the following sections: Vocabulary,
Objective & Drill, Labs, Notes/Handouts, Quizzes and Tests, and Homework.
Being organized is very important. Students who tend to have a seperate
notebook for the class stay more organized than the student who throws all
of
their papers into one large binder.
My notebook is getting full, can I thorw out my papers?
Students are asked not to throw out any papers until the end of each
quarter.
At the end of each quarter the class will take 10 minutes to organize and
clean out their science notebook. Folders will be given to any student who
wants to keep imporant papers for the final.
What are the rules for the classroom?
Classroom Rules
The lab safety contract must be adhered to at all times. No eating or
drinking in class or in lab. No talking when the instructor is talking. No
hats or headphones. Work handed in individually must be original, showing
independent thought, even if it began as a cooperative learning activity.
I got points taken off for my HW, why?
There is a correct homework format for your science class. All homework
must be in either blue or black INK.
Homework Format-
1. Name and section in the upper right hand corner.
2. Date due in the upper left corner.
3. Chapter number and assigned questions on the top line.
4. All answers in ink (Blue or Black), and legible.
5. Questions must appear as statements in the answer. Use complete sentences.
6. Skip one space between each answer and each answer must be properly
numbered.
Topic questions are frequently assigned from the textbook with each section
covered in class. Students need to hand write all topic questions.
How is homework graded?
(Depending on the Assignment)
Homework Grading
10 points (generally)- If all directions are followed and the answers
checked are correct. Only one or two answers are checked, but you won't
know
which ones they are until the papers are graded and passed back. The same
questions are graded for all students.
-3 points for not following one direction.
-2 points for not following a second direction.
-2 points for each wrong answer.
-5 points if incomplete-not all questions are answered.
Zero--if not handed in on due date for an unexcused reason.
Zero-if copied; both the copier and the person who allowed work to be
copied.
(This applies to all topic questions- at the end of each section)
There is also Quick Check (QC)--when the teacher asks the students to get
out
their homework and checks for completion.
Not all HW is graded.
If I did not use all of my HWC, can I carry them over to the next quarter?
No. Homework coupons are color coded and kept track of. You may not carry
any
unused ones over to the next quarter, or give them to another student
to use.
How can I check out what my current grade is in Earth Science Class?
