Below you will find the several tips and facts, policies and
procedures that I have established for my classes and the students who take
the courses. You can find the appropriate class by looking for the heading
for your students classes by scrolling down the page.
Parenting of teens can be a joy and stressful at the same time as
your students struggle to become independent. I hope that the creation of
this website, and the inclusion of these tips, assists you in keeping track
of and helping your student be successful academically in my courses.
It truly does “take a community to raise a child” and I am dedicated
and committed to helping your child meet their academic needs and goals

Final papers must be typed in black ink, times new roman and 12 point font
Parent notes are not accepted for late work
-10pts. Per day per paper late/-5 points on smaller assignments per day-
assignments are still required after 3 days-failing credit issued
If your student is going to be gone for an extended amount of time, call the
office for work or it is the student’s responsibility to receive the work
prior to leaving-If there is a pre-posted assignment during the time your
student is gone, it will be due the day they return, including scheduled
tests.
Grade consultation is done with students, before and after school, at lunch
and on my conference period, it is the student’s responsibility to see me
about their grade concerns.

At the end of each trimester, a final comprehensive standardized written
exam will be issued.
Please encourage your student to share their writing with you. Often an
adult reader is the best thing to happen prior to turning his/her paper in.
This also helps the student advance his or her writing skills and avoid
grammatical issues they may not have discovered on their own. Encourage
your student to print more than one hard copy of the final prior to printing
the teacher copy.
If your student is having difficulty with literature, please visit a website
or purchase cliff notes for them. Literature discussions can be invaluable
at home and I encourage you to read or re-read the texts with your student
for meaningful discussions to occur. Study questions, summaries, and
supplemental materials can also be found on-line.

Policies:
Students will work in various groups of teacher assignment, and of self
choice, group and individual grades are given.
Students are working hands on in groups taping at various locations around
the school.
Outside taping can be a portion of the student’s grade, we provide the
materials, and they do the outside of class taping of any school/community
event.
Because Video Production is a hands on class, every time the student misses
(during group projects), in order to receive daily credit, they must
complete a one page summary of ANY media related (newspaper or internet
news) article. Attaching the article to their summary for credit.
If your student is going to be gone for an extended amount of time, call the
office for work or it is the student’s responsibility to receive the work
prior to leaving.
Grade consultation is done with students, before and after school, at lunch
and on my conference period, it is the student’s responsibility to see me
about their grade concerns.
All other school policies are followed.
The focus for Video Production is on learning and using video editing
equipment for the purpose of communication and English/Language Arts
skills.
Your student should be able to be self-guided and motivated and work well in
groups in order to be successful in this class.
Below is a list of skills for each section:
Video A-lecture on equipment, watching television for technique,
analyzing what and how we view media formats, testing above a C grade on all
equipment tests before using the equipment, Chosen assigned job duties
within teacher assigned groups, various projects include but are not limited
to newscast, commercial, etc.
Video B-Continue with group projects of the student’s group choice, includes
a drama and a music video, etc. Independent Project-student will be own
director, scriptwriter, and will be filming for their individual 5-8
minute movie project.
At the end of each trimester, a final comprehensive standardized written
exam will be issued.
Students may need help figuring out how to type the two-column script format
(in Microsoft word, break into two columns) that they will be taught to
use.
Students will be excited about this class and will often ask to work during
lunch or after school on video related projects.
Your greatest support as a parent for this class can come from keeping your
children safe behind and in front of the camera. Although I approve and
look at scripts for all projects, your at home supervision of filming
activities is the best support of our class and assurance of content
approval from you. In addition, your student needs a signed release form to
participate in any in-class taping or filming.
We will have Specs Howard a local school for video production come and speak
to the class about further career and schooling opportunities. We regularly
talk about possibilities of various careers in the industry.
There is no text for the course; homework is in the form of taping or script
writing. Students will be required to write up to 10 page scripts for
various projects. Project shooting both during the day and after school by
student choice, and outside taping required outside of school hours.
Especially valuable for my class would be a family discussion about the
topic of Television and Media viewing, a sensitive issue, which is studied
early in Video A. I often find that students have a desire to talk about
this with their families, as they will be analyzing their viewing habits.
My class inspires creativity in students and I encourage them to share their
projects with you. If they wish to make a copy of any of their projects to
take home, the cost is $5.00 (at cost for class supplies) in DVD format and
can be purchased at any time.

SPEECHES ARE MANDATORY!
If your student is going to be gone for an extended amount of time, call the
office for work or it is the student’s responsibility to receive the work
prior to leaving. Speeches will be rescheduled upon the students return to
school.

and on my conference period, it is the student’s responsibility to see me
about their grade concerns.

The focus for Public Speaking is on learning the skills of basic and
advanced public speaking and audience interaction.

awareness of diversity concerning politically correct speech
professional vs. casual speech
gaining confidence in presenting to the public
the advantages of using appropriate visual aides
developing strong messages and supporting them with detail
correct methods of delivering formal and informal speeches

knowing your audience and keeping them engaged
proper uses for outlines and note cards/versus the key elements for a
memorized speech
key tools in achieving success with professional speaking in the workplace
and on the collegiate level
At the end of the trimester, a final comprehensive standardized written
