PF Ch 2 Webquest

  1. Career Skills Activity

    (log on to http://teacherweb.com/MI/Cheboygan/MrOstman/AP2.stm) 
    1.) Do you have a current copy of your resume?  If yes, provide me a copy.  If not, create one.  For an example and to create one, go to
     http://www.resumetemplates.org/
    and click on a
    resume template close to your occupation.  Cut and paste this into a word document and provide your current and personal info.  What is your career pathway?

    2.)Do you know a specific job in this pathway? If yes, write it down and if not pick, one from your career pathway list for the purpose of this activity.  You may explore more than one occupation!


    3.)Go to the following website,
    http://www.bls.gov/oes/current/oes_nat.htm and find this information for your chosen job:

    Mean annual income:



    Number of people employed in this type of job (under “employment” column)


    4.) Click on the occupation and find out what state pays the most and pays the less for this job.  Can you find an area close to where you want to live and its pay?



    What state has the best job opportunities of this occupation?



    5.) Go to

or other job listing website and find an actual job listing.  Write down the job title, location, pay, and any benefits.


6.) Now go to:

  • Lets say you have a job in Grand Rapids, MI that pays $35,000.  What salary would you need to maintain the same standard of living in Chicago, IL?

    In Washington/Arlington/Alexandria, VA?


    Now try the states from question #4. (Just pick any city in the state)
    Try other locations of your choosing.



    Remember from economics class that this reflects COLA or cost of living adjustment!

    Read this article and explain at least 3 ways how you can boost your chances of getting hired. 






    8.) Briefly state your job plans.(job description, location, relationship to career, pay scale if you know and/or want to disclose!)        


    If time allows, continue the personal finance modules. Work through module 7. Go to the following site and log on using your log in name and password I gave you in class.http://www.moneyskill.org/curriculum/launch.cfm Your score will automatically be graded and sent to me when you are done. You may continue on to the next one if time allows as we will complete all the modules with a green check next to them throughout the trimester. Remember, your grade will be your average times 2 out of 200 points.
