Stock Market Competition Rules
- Each team starts with a fictional $100,000. You may buy on margin (50%). This means you can borrow as much money as you have cash. So each team has $200,000 worth of purchasing power to start with.
- The competition ends June 2009.
- You can short sell stocks. This means you can make money on stocks if they go down in value.
- Limit orders are allowed as are stop loss orders.
- There is a minimum of $2.00 stocks. That is a stock must be over $2.00 per share for you to buy it.
- You can only trade the maximum volume of that stock.
- Your portfolio can, at most, only contain 75% of any one stock. In other words, you can not put all of your money into one stock. (You should never put all your eggs in one basket!!! Just ask Enron’s employees)
- Commission to trade a stock will cost $19.95.
- To borrow money (margin count) the annual interest rate will be 6.00% and money in your account not in stocks, will earn 4.00%.
- You will not be able to see your stock trades for at least 20 minutes.
- You may access and trade 24 hours a day but the actual transaction will not take place until the markets open at 9:30 am M-F. The markets close at 4.00 p.m.
