Yesterday we took our open-note test on the American Revolution and today we
will begin watching the movie, "The Patriot." Listed below are the
objectives and state instructional standards being taught by viewing this
film.
Objectives for “The Patriot”
1.View sources related to historical events to reinforce the activities
completed in our American Revolution Unit.
2.Connect the lives of people in the 1700s to the lives of people today in
America.
3.Identify 18 aspects of the American Revolution illustrated in the film.
4.Movie will serve as a springboard to the culminating in-class project of
making a class quilt about the American Revolution. (planned week of 12/1.
NCSCOS for “The Patriot”
2.01 Trace the events leading up to the Revolutionary War and evaluate their
relative significance in the onset of hostilities.
2.02 Describe the contributions of key North Carolina and national
personalities from the Revolutionary War era and assess their influence on
the outcome of the war.
2.03 Examine the role of North Carolina in the Revolutionary War.
2.04 Examine the reasons for the colonists’ victory over the British, and
evaluate the impact of military successes and failures, the role of foreign
interventions, and on-going political and economic domestic issues.
2.05 Describe the impact of documents such as the Mecklenburg Resolves, the
Halifax Resolves, the Albany Plan of Union, The Declaration of Independence,
the State Constitution of 1776, the Articles of Confederation, the United
States Constitution, and the Bill of Rights on the formation of the state and
national governments.
At the conclusion of the film each class will make a quilt to illustrate the
events of the American Revolution. The quilt squares will include the 18
topics discussed from the movie as well as some additional topics we learned
in the book. The quilt assingment will be a competition between classes with
the winning quilt earning its makers 10 points extra credit on the next NC
project check.
