November Newsletter
Most of the new books have arrived, which are now ready for students to
checkout, thanks to my wonderful library volunteers who have been busy
processing and covering them.
The students in all three grades will be watching a special Power Point
presentation at the beginning of November, or early December, that will
highlight many of the new books and a few old favorites. While viewing the
presentation students will get to see some of what the library has to offer
and the opportunity to write down titles they would like to checkout or place
on reserve.
Third grade will continue their unit on fiction books by completing a call
number hunt with a partner, then they will be watching a video called Using
the Library.
The fourth and fifth graders will be going to the lab to independently
complete searches using the online catalog. First, advanced or expanded
searching will be introduced. Students will have a choice as to which search
they would like to complete. Then the fourth and fifth graders will practice
searching and reading the online catalog. The fifth grade questions will
require two searches in order to compare and contrast to find the correct
answer. They will also be searching for author, title, call number, number of
copies, along with copyright and how to differentiate between fiction and
nonfiction.
Fifth grade will also be completing a mini unit on plagiarism followed by how
to complete a works cited page using the MLA format.
