Tuesday, Dec. 22:  Due the first day back after winter break are the following
assignments: "My Maya Glyph" project, "The Buzzwords of 2009" worksheet, and
"The Decade That Was" worksheet.  Follow the directions provided to you for
completing the glyph. "The Buzzwords of 2009" and "The Decade That Was" may be
worked on with a family member. ("The Decade That Was" is an extra credit
assignment.) If you’re interested in seeing last year’s buzzwords, just send
me an email and I will forward to you last year's handout.


Monday, Dec. 21:  Complete "Geography of the Americas" Mapping Activity by
tomorrow.

textbook. Define terms and answer two checkpoint questions; 3) Complete "The
Height of Greek Civilization" timeline activity begun today in class. (This

Thursday, Dec. 10: Review for tomorrow's assessment on Greek legacies. Read
handout "EQ and the Leadership Personality."

guide to assist you THE QUIZ HAS BEEN MOVED TO FRIDAY (Thursday if you will

Monday, Dec. 7:  1) Read the textbook pages 141-142 as well as the Infographic
on pages 140-141. Define all terms in your notes and answer Question 5 on page
142;  2) Read the handout "Some English Words and Phrases Taken from Greek
Mythology" and keep this handout in the Reference section of your binder; 3)
Study for Wednesday’s quiz on Greek legacies – use the study guide to assist
you;  4) If you did not blog, please do so by today; 5) Know Thyself project
due Thursday. 



Friday, Dec. 4: 1) Respond to Finders Keepers, Losers Weepers blog post by
Monday. 2) Submission of the beginning of your Know Thyself project also due
Monday. Your draft should be typed and double spaced, with a heading, title,
and your quote. Only the first paragraph of your response needs to be
included. 3) Final draft of Know Thyself due Thursday, Dec. 10.

from Thucydides’ History of the Peloponnesian War. Complete accompanying

Monday, Nov. 16:  Read Section 4-3 of textbook (pages 124-128). In your notes,
record: 1)  the defined terms with definitions, 2) the 3 checkpoint questions
with answers, and 3) your answers to questions 3 and 5 on page 128. Due
Wednesday, Nov. 18.


Friday, Nov. 13:  Prepare for Monday's graded discussion on Athens vs. Sparta:
which polis offers the better life. Make sure the notes you will be using to
help you make your points are adequate. Some students have submitted written
requests for a particular city-state, and those requests will be honored. If
you have a request and did not submit it in class, send me an email, and I
will confirm whether that city-state is still available.

Students who are interested in obtaining extra credit may also create a Greek
nameplate for Monday's debate. The graded discussion assignment sheet and a
Greek alphabet guide were distributed in class on Wednesday.

Wednesday, Nov. 11: Study for Friday's quiz. Beginning tomorrow in class you
will have the opportunity to prepare for the graded discussion on Athens vs.
Sparta: which polis offers the better life. Your in-class work from Thursday
will be checked in school on Friday. Students who are interested in obtaining
extra credit may also create a Greek nameplate for Monday's debate. The graded
discussion assignment sheet and a Greek alphabet guide were distributed today
in class.


Tuesday, Nov. 10: 1) CE "Weighing Life in Prison for Youths Who Didn’t Kill"
due tomorrow. 2) Get gradesheet signed. 3) Quiz moved to Friday (see Monday
below for details on quiz).


Monday, Nov. 9:  1)  CE "The Berlin Wall 20 Years After the Fall" due
tomorrow. Answers need not be in complete sentences. Don't forget to ask a
parent about question 2. 
2)  Study for Thursday's quiz. Use the study guide to help you. Also refer to
the following handouts: Greek Values exercise, Section 4-1 notes (defined
terms), CE on health care, CE on Election Day, and CE on the 20th anniversary
of the fall of the Berlin Wall, as well as today's documentary viewing guide.
