America, The Beautiful The best music for the best country!!!!!

In September we celebrate Constitution Day.

We begin the year with a unit on the Continents and Oceans. We will use this powerpoint to learn about the Earth. Students will be able to name and locate the 7 continents and 4 oceans. We will be creating passports that will be stamped as we "visit" each continent and research life there. A special day, Continent Day, was held as a special culminating activity. The studen ss l traveled to each third grade classroom to experience life on a particular continent!

Jalen and Max use an atlas to locate information about North America.

We have also completed a unit of study on Christopher Columbus. Students worked in groups to read various biographies about this famous explorer. Students, to test your knowledge on what you have learned, try the link below to play a fun arcade type game.

In November and December, our class studied the Pilgrims and Colonial Life. We began our unit by visitiig the Ocean County Museum and seeing first hand how people lived without electricity and other modern conveniences. Then we read many books about the Pilgrims, thier trip to America, and life during Colonial Times. We finished the unit with a celebration called Colonial Day. On this day, we learned how to make a hornbook and write with a feather. We also made a class quilt and a sock doll. We ate homemade butter that we made ourselves. Later in the day, we visited the other third grade classes to make a rag rug, learn how to cross-stitch, and learn about Colonial Laws. The day was amazing!
