Dear Students, This page is just for you! On it, I have all sorts of tips and hints on how to be an A+ student in my class!!! Enjoy! Love, Miss Pilcher How to Be an A+ Student In my classroom, all that matters is that you try your best! Below you can find some tips to help you get the best grades that you can in school. 1. Your teacher will ALWAYS accept extra credit! If you choose to do an extra project or extra work in the classroom, that is showing me that you care about your grade, and that you want to improve yourself! It also helps you to practice-- and as you know, practice makes perfect! Students-- Want Extra Credit NOW?? Read a CHAPTER BOOK, choose one of the project choices from this site, and hand it in! Have fun! 2. Read before you go to sleep every night. Ask your parents to extend your bedtime 15-20 minutes so you can get some important reading time in! You can choose what to read-- magazines, comic books, newspapers, chapter books. You can borrow books from school, the public library, or even a friend! Or, you can order reading materials throughour monthly book order, or buy them at the book store. It's so important to read! Just by reading more, you'll be a better reader, and a smarter student! Try it and see! 3. Memorize those math facts!!! By now, you should already know ALL of your addition and subtraction facts by heart. If you don't, now is the time to master them! To keep those math facts in your brain- practice them for just 10 minutes a day. You can practice in the car, before you go to bed, or by playing games on our Math Mania section on the website! In 3rd grade we begin to learn our multiplication facts. One of the best ways to learn them is by pure memorization! You can use sets of flashcards, or play computer games to help you memorize them. Math doesn't have to be boring! 4.Write more at home. Most students don't do a lot of writing at home. By simply writing more at home, you can improve not only your writing skills, but also your handwriting and vocabulary! Some fun ways to do this is to start a journal, keep a writer's notebook, or write letters. 5. Reread your Science and Social Studies notes. Now that you are getting older, you need to learn how to study more on your own, especially in these two classes. One easy way to study is to bring your notes home and read them over again. See if you still remember what you wrote, or if some of it was forgotten. Your brain is incredible-- but sometimes it can't remember everything it learns on the first try! If you read over your notes, and find something you don't understand, be sure to ask me to explain it to you again! 6. Pay attention and participate in class. School can be a really fun place- full of friends to talk and work with! Sometimes it's easy to forget that we need to concentrate during lessons so we can learn more. If you feel yourelf thinking about things that are not part of the lesson, try to get more involved. Volunteer to help me, read aloud, or solve a problem for the class. Raise your hand and ask a question, or make a comment about what you are learning. The more involved you are, the easier it will be to remember later!
