CLASSROOM PROCEDURES
“DO NOW”: Every day, when you come into the classroom, there will be a “Do Now” assignment posted on the board. You will begin working on the posted assignment as soon as you come into class and take your seat. You will be allowed only a few minutes after the bell rings to complete the assignment.
HOMEWORK: Homework will be assigned each night. At the start of each class, you will take your seat and leave your homework notebook open to the previous night’s assignment while you work on the “Do Now” assignment. I will come around and check your notebook for homework completion. It will be graded as “Completed” or “Not Completed.” As long as you have completed the assignment, you will receive full credit for the homework. (Take Note!: Doing your homework consistently is a great way to bring (or keep) your grade up!)
HOW TO KEEP YOUR CLASS NOTEBOOK: Every day, you will begin a new entry in your class notebook. Each day’s entry will have a heading that contains the following: Today’s Date Class Objective (posted on the board every day) Homework for Tonight (every day, at the start of class, the homework will be posted in the “Homework Area” in the front of the classroom. It is your responsibility to copy down the homework assignment each day.) Do Now: Under the heading, you will write down the “Do Now” assignment along with your answers/thoughts regarding the assignment. Notes: The rest of your daily entry will consist of notes that you take on the class lecture or class activity. **For help on how to take notes, see the page titled “How do I take good notes??”**
**I will periodically check (and grade) your class notebook to ensure that you are keeping organized daily entries according to the above format. (Take Note!!: Keeping a well organized daily class notebook is another great way to bring (or keep) your grade up!!)**
WHEN THE BELL RINGS AT THE END OF CLASS: The bell does not dismiss the class. I will dismiss the class when the lesson is over. Until the class is dismissed, you should remain in your seat, quiet and attentive.
WHAT DO I DO WHEN…
-->I AM LATE TO CLASS? When you are late to class, enter the class and take your seat as quietly as possible. If you have an excuse slip, leave it on my desk on the way in. DO NOT DISRUPT THE CLASS. If you need to speak with me about your tardiness, wait until after I have dismissed the class, and then come speak with me.
-->I AM ABSENT FROM CLASS?
When you are absent from class, look on the website for the daily homework assignments, and complete these to get credit when you return. In order to receive credit for the homework checked while you were out, you must come show it to me after class on the day you return. If the reason for your absence prevents you from having the homework done on the day your return, please see me immediately to make an alternate arrangement. On the day that you return to class, go to the “Absentee Folder” in the designated area of the classroom to find any handouts, worksheets, etc. that you missed. The weekly homework assignments are also posted in the classroom. Ask a classmate to copy the class notes for the days you missed, and find out if there were any important announcements. AFTER you have done the above steps, if you need to see me regarding your absence, missed work, homework etc, email, call or speak with me after class or in office hours, and I will be more than happy to help you!
