What type of school supplies are recommended for class? A 3 hole punch one inch binder with loose leaf paper, with a portable 3 hole puncher and pocket folders. Pencils with a portable sharpener, erasable pens and highlighters Optional: crayons, colored pencils, markers, erasers, calculator, ruler and compass 1. Please be polite, prepared and productive! 2. Respect other's personal space and items to create a safe environment. 3. Follow directions the first time you hear them. 50% Tests and Labs 25% Quizzes 25% Homework Will there be homework every night? Generally you should expect homework every night but Friday. Homework should take you less than 20 minutes to complete and will be checked in class. Since homework is 25% of your final grade it is highly recommended that you complete assignments on time. All students start each marking period with a 100 average for homework. Every time a student misses a homework assignment, five points will be deducted from the 100. Will there be study guides for tests? Yes, there will be study guides for tests. These study guides will be designed to help you organize and focus on the material, but you should also review any notes or handouts provided during the unit. I will be available after school on Tuesdays and Thursdays for 30 minutes for any student requiring extra help. Please make sure you come to these sessions with specific questions so you can utilize the time efficiently. Extra help schedules can be found in the front office and usually start in October. Will we be doing labs in class? Yes, we will be doing several labs throughout the year. You are expected to be prepared and act accordingly so that the class can learn in a safe environment. Will technology be part of class? Yes, I use the computer daily for notes to be displayed on the projector screen. Educational internet sites and software programs are examples of methods to help you learn in an interesting and unique way. What type of projects will I have to do at home? I usually assign quarterly projects. These projects may be worth test/lab and are a great way to improve your overall grade while increasing your knowledge of science. How do I get work if I am absent from school? I will post homework, notes, and a schedule of important due dates on my web site. Also, a binder with these materials will be provided in class, but it is your responsibility to make up the work and hand assignments in for credit. Physical Science: Introduction to Matter Earth Science: Structure of Earth, Weather and Astronomy If I choose to break a rule, what are my consequences? 1st offense is a verbal warning. 2nd offense you will stay after class. 3rd offense will be a call home. 4th offense will be detention. Severe consequences will report directly to the office. Are their rewards for good class behavior? YES!!! This will be explained further in class, but every marking period can result in a Reward Day. This class reward requires teamwork and cooperation by all. How do I get in touch with you? I would highly recommend emailing me since I tend to check my mail more often than the phone, however you can call the main office to reach my extension. Should the textbook stay in school or at home? You will be able to view an online textbook after the first week of school. A username and password will be assigned to you. Go to the http://my.hrw.com website to login. Please keep the textbook in school and bring to class everyday. Do I need to get graded papers signed by my parent(s)? The only time you need to get a test, lab, quiz or project signed is when you receive below a 65. I will make a note on the top of your paper to have it signed. I expect it signed by the following day. |
