FCMEA Meeting

Salmon River

 

 

Call to Order

Meeting was called to order at 4:00PM by President Emily Rabideau.

Acceptance of Minutes

Mindy made a motion to accept the minutes (seconded by Cindy).  All in favor, none opposed, none abstained.

 

Reports

 

Treasurer’s Report:  (presented by Emily for Paul)

§         Balance is $1,477 ($500 less than this time last year

Discussion was held

-         Recommended to raise the school dues to $100

-         Recommended to watch expenditures before and during the festival

-         Question of whether to pay for accompanists.  It was decided that they need to be paid.

-         Paul (through his letter) motioned that we raise the school dues to $100 (seconded by Justin).  A discussion ensued which ended with a change to the motion by Mindy to raise the dues to $125 (seconded by Dana).  All in favor, none opposed, none abstained.

-         Mindy suggested re-inviting Tupper Lake and Saranac Lake back into FCMEA.  It was noted that they were already members of Clinton County’s Music Educators Association when FCMEA was created.  Discussion ended with no motion passed.

 

Secretary’s Report: Jeff S. reported that all future minutes and forms will be available online at his website under the FCMEA tab (lower left hand corner).

Old Business

 

Music Student Scholarship Recipients:

-         Mindy brought a “Thank You” note from Caleb Bourg (FA) for his scholarship.

-         Dana has a student (Malary Goodrow) that is going into music business at Crane.  Dana will speak to student to write a note to request to receive the FCMEA scholarship.  Dana will have the student mail the letter to Paul.

 

 

New Business

 

Area All-State

-         Will be held on November 21st and 22nd @ Saranac Central School

-         Jeanette Woodruff is the General Chairperson

-         Group Chairs: Steve Collier- Mixed Chorus, Karin Ryan- Women’s Chorus, Dana Beyer- Concert Band, Brian Baker- Jazz Band

-         Reminder that applications are due by Friday, October 3rd.

-         Applications can be sent to the general chair, group chairs or to Mindy or Dana by the above date and they will bring them to the selection meeting with them.

-         Selection Committee meeting will be on Monday, October 6th @ 5PM in Peru.

-         Please separate instruments on CD’s and make sure the CD’s are clearly labeled.

-         Students are encouraged to submit a recording in place of a poorly performed NYSSMA solo.

 

NYSSMA Summer Conference

-         Will be held August 10-12 in Albany

-         Dana is now representing the North Country on the Diversity Committee (congrats!) and will be attending

-         Mindy is also attending and will be representing Franklin County at the County President’s meeting.

 

NYSSMA Winter Conference

-         Will be held December 4-7 in Rochester

-         As of the meeting Dana, Mindy, Emily will be going.

 

NYSSMA Solo Festival

-         Will be held May 1st and 2nd in Plattsburgh at the Stafford Middle School

 

NYSSMA Major Organization

-         Will be held May 15th in Plattsburgh at the Plattsburgh High School

 

2009 FCMEA All-County Music Festival

            -  Suggested dates for the festival were February 6th and 7th with snow dates of February 27th and 28th.

-         Conductors must choose at least one piece from the FCMEA music library in Chateaugay or provide a piece of their own

-         The number of pieces a conductor must choose depends on the difficulty level of the music selected and the outlook of the group selected.

-         Applications are due on November 22nd at the Area All-State Festival

-         Chairpeople

o       It was suggested Gayle of Jocelyn be the General Chairperson (Emily will ask)

o       It was suggested Gayle be the Band Chairperson (Emily will ask), if no Cindy offered to chair the band again

o       It was suggested that Sonny or Paul chair the Junior High Chorus (Dana will ask)

o       Laura will chair the elementary chorus (thank you!)

 

Musical Dates 2008-2009

-         As of the meeting, the only sure dates were for Malone to have their musical December 12, 13, 14.  Yes those are the dates.  Malone will be giving a Christmas musical a try this year.

-         Salmon River’s will be held in March again.

 

People Changing Placements

-         It was noted that Kathleen Calnon will no longer be teaching within Franklin County.  She will be greatly missed and will be an asset to her new school district.  Thank you for all of your time and dedication.

 

Next Meeting Date

 

The next FCMEA meeting will be held: September 10, 2008 @ 4PM at the Malone Golf Club (Mindy will contact the club)
