2006 Step 2 Clinical Skills Schedule for Reporting Results
A new reporting schedule for the United States Medical Licensing Examination (USMLE) Step 2 CS will be introduced in 2006. The 2006 schedule calls for results to be reported during specific periods throughout the year, rather than on a rolling basis as in the current process. For examinees who test in 2006, results will be reported during the reporting period that corresponds to their exam date. The 2006 reporting periods and their corresponding exam dates are listed below.
Step 2 CS 2006 Reporting Schedule
Examinees who test Jan 1, 2006, through Feb 25, 2006, the reporting period is Mar 29, 2006, to Apr 26, 2006.
Examinees who test Feb 26 through Apr 22, the reporting period is May 24 to Jun 21.
Examinees who test Apr 23 through May 20, the reporting period is Jun 21 to Jul 19.
Examinees who test May 21 through Jul 15, the reporting period is Aug 16 to Sep 13.
Examinees who test Jul 16 through Sep 9, the reporting period is Oct 11 to Nov 8.
Examinees who test Sep 10 through Nov 4, the reporting period is Dec 6 to Jan 3, 2007.
Examinees who test Nov 5 through Dec 31, the reporting period is Jan 31, 2007 to Feb 21, 2007.
The first results for a given testing period will be mailed on the first day of the corresponding reporting period, and it is expected that results for the vast majority of examinees who take the exam during the testing period will be reported on this date. However, it is important to note that there will likely be a small number of examinees for whom scoring and quality assurance are not completed by the first day of the reporting period; these will typically be examinees who took the exam in the latter part of the testing period. Results for these examinees will be reported each week throughout the reporting period, and should be reported no later than the last day of the score reporting period.
This schedule will allow USMLE staff to improve the score reporting system by enhancing the quality assurance and data collection/scoring procedures performed prior to score reporting. Additionally, it will provide examinees, and others who rely on Step 2 CS results, with guidelines regarding when a result will be reported for a given exam date. These guidelines will allow examinees to plan their exam registration and scheduling in order to have their results in time to meet specific deadlines, such as those related to graduation or participation in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP).
The new score reporting schedule applies to examinees who take Step 2 CS in 2006. For examinees who take Step 2 CS on or before December 31, 2005, every effort will be made to ensure that Step 2 CS results are reported in time to participate in the 2006 Match.

IMGs Participating in the 2006 Match Must Take Step 2 CS as Early as Possible
(posted April 22, 2005)
International medical graduates (IMGs) who wish to participate in the National Resident Matching Program (NRMP), or "the Match," must have passed all exams required for ECFMG Certification. If you plan to participate in the 2006 Match and need to pass Step 2 CS, you should know that a specific reporting date for Step 2 CS results cannot be guaranteed, regardless of the date on which Step 2 CS is taken. However, if you take Step 2 CS later than December 31, 2005, you are unlikely to have your results in time to participate in the Match.
If you need to pass Step 2 CS to participate in the 2006 Match, you should consider the following:
Demand for Step 2 CS is expected to be heavy throughout 2005, especially in the months preceding the Match.
The scheduling restrictions that are in effect for 2005 test dates may reduce the number of test dates available to you.
It is unlikely that examinees taking Step 2 CS later than December 31, 2005 will have their results for the Match. However, this is not a guarantee that those who do test by December 31, 2005 will have their results in time to participate in the Match.
You are strongly encouraged to apply for Step 2 CS as soon as you are eligible and to schedule your exam for the earliest possible date. You can apply and schedule by visiting the ECFMG website.
You are also strongly encouraged to monitor the ECFMG website and the USMLE website for further updates on the availability of results.
For complete information on the Match, visit the NRMP website.
April, 2004: IMGS PARTICIPATING IN THE 2005 MATCH MUST TAKE STEP 2 CS AS EARLY AS POSSIBLE
In recent years, international medical graduates (IMGs) participating in the National Resident Matching Program ("the Match") were required to take the ECFMG(r) Clinical Skills Assessment (CSA(r)) by January 31 to ensure that their results would be available in time to participate in the Match.
With the implementation of USMLE(tm) Step 2 Clinical Skills (Step 2 CS) in June 2004, this January 31 date no longer applies. The date by which examinees must take Step 2 CS to have their results for the Match will be earlier. Although a specific reporting date cannot be guaranteed, regardless of the date on which Step 2 CS is taken, if you take Step 2 CS later than December 31, 2004, you are unlikely to have your results in time to participate in the Match.
If you need to pass Step 2 CS to participate in the 2005 Match, you should consider the following:
- It is unlikely that examinees taking Step 2 CS later than December 31, 2004 will have their results for the Match. (See full announcement below.) However, this is not a guarantee that those who do test by December 31, 2004 will have their results in time to participate in the Match.
- Demand for Step 2 CS in the months preceding the Match is expected to be heavy.
- You are strongly encouraged to apply for Step 2 CS as soon as you are eligible and to schedule your exam for the earliest possible date.
You are also strongly encouraged to monitor the ECFMG website at www.ecfmg.org and USMLE website at www.usmle.org for further updates on the availability of results.
