| Welcome to Endocrinology! All residents have an opportunity to gain
experience in the field of Endocrinology by attending the Thursday
Endocrinology Clinic. It is important to arrive no later than 1:30
PM. You must be able to gather a concise history by speaking with
the patient as well as by reviewing any old records (Imnet/HBO). The
physical examination should focus on the endocrine system and you
should anticipate the need for a cup of water to palpate the thyroid.
Be prepared to present 1 or 2 of your patients at the end of the
clinic (and have their unit number). You may be asked to bring radiographic
studies to the end of clinic meeting. Residents wanting more exposure
to Endocrinology may sign up for the elective. Please review the "Endo Web
Links" and Syllabus on this web site. You will have additional opportunities
to learn endocrinology from Noon Time conferences, Morning Report, Medical
Grand Rounds, or by participating in the Endocrinology Elective.
Grading:
As for all topics, you will be evaluated regarding the six ACGME competencies
of (1) Knowledge, (2) Interpersonal & Communication Skills, (3) Patient
Care, (4) Professionalism, (5) Practice Based Learning and Improvement, and
(6) Systems Based Practice. We use the standard ABIM 9 point rating scale,
where 1-3 is unsatisfactory, 4 is "marginal", 5-6 is good, and 7-9 is
excellent.
