Newbery Book Report (Due on or before January 9, 2009)
Read either a Newbery Winner or a Newbery Honor book. You may use the same
book to satisfy the AR requirement for the 2nd quarter. Many Newbery books
are also on the AR list.
Use the templates and directions that follow to create a Newbery Book
Report. After you finish the report, each page should be cut out, hole-
punched on the asterisks (*), and fastened with 2 paper fasteners.

character in the book, what would your role be? What would you have done in
the story?
• HINT: You are creating a brand-new character, not using one that
already exists in the story. Use your creative thinking skills to write
yourself into the story.
1. Would your character change the outcome of the story?
2. What is your relationship with the other characters in
the story?
3. Are you a main character or a secondary character?

happening.
PAGE 7
Use template 2 and label it: WHY THIS BOOK IS A WINNER
There must have been a good reason your book was a Newbery Medal Winner or
Honor Book. What was it about your book that made it so outstanding? Write a
complete and thoughtful paragraph. Cite specific examples from the book to
support your feelings. Include the page number on which the example can be
found.
