--------------------------------------
Should I call the School Office to report an absence?
Yes. Homework may then be requested. Please call before 11:30 A.M. so that
the teachers will have the work ready for pick up at 2:30 P.M. Homework
assignments and books will be left at the desk in the School foyer. The
building is open until 11:00 P.M. in the evening for your convenience.
--------------------------------------
What is the procedure for picking up a student from School (Early Dismissal)?
A note should be brought to School by your child on the day he/she needs to
be picked up. The note should be addressed to the Homeroom Teacher and
should include the reason for the early dismissal, who is coming for the
child, what the pick up time would be and the note should be dated and signed
by the parent. Pick up notes may be faxed (226-8470) and reach the Main
Office by 9:30 A.M. That gives the office plenty of time to contact the
Homeroom Teacher.
--------------------------------------
What about an emergency? Am I able to pick up my child without a note?
Most definitely! When there is cause to have your child released due to an
emergency (doctor appointment; dental appointment, etc.) you may call the
office to alert Mrs. Martin or Mrs. Angioletti or you may bring a note with
you at the time of pick up. If there is not time to do either, when you come
to sign your child out, we have notepads in the office you may use.
--------------------------------------
What is a Noon Dismissal; an 11:40 A.M. Dismissal, etc.?
A Noon Dismissal means that all buses are off school grounds by noon or three
minutes after noon. An 11:30 A.M. dismissal means that buses are off school
grounds by 11:30 A.M. or three minutes thereafter at 11:33 A.M.
--------------------------------------
What is the pick up time if my child is not taking the school bus?
You must arrive at 2:25 P.M. and proceed to the Gym. The sign out book is
located in the Gym and you are asked to sign your child/children out. When
we have early dismissal, the pick up time is always 20 minutes before
boarding of the buses begins,i.e. 11:10 A.M.(11:30 A.M. Dismissal), etc.
--------------------------------------
Can a sibling or other student pick up a sick child's homework?
Paper work only may be sent home with a sibling. Books need to be picked up
at the front desk located in the School Lobby. The weight and amount of
books may be prohibitive to having another student/sibling bring them home.
--------------------------------------
What about school closings and delays?
We ask that especially when there is inclement weather predicted, you listen
to the local radio stations for delay and closing information. When you
hear, "Wappingers Central School District is closed," Saint Denis/Saint
Columba School is closed. Our school is not always specifically mentioned
because Wappingers makes a general announcement for all those schools in the
District. If you live in a District other than Wappingers, follow their
directives. Remember, our School is located in the Wappingers District. We,
therefore, follow their directives as to weather closings and weather
delays.
DELAYS: If Wappingers has a two hour delay, Saint Denis/Saint Columba School
has a two hour delay. If any other school district delays and Wappingers
does not, Saint Denis/Saint Columba School does not have a delay, and we
would be on regular schedule. When your district has a two hour delay, they
will transport your children on a delayed schedule, i.e., if your children
are normally picked up at 7:00 A.M., they will be picked up at 9:00 A.M.,
etc. You are not expected to personally drive your children to school if you
are on a delay.

Are you affiliated with any Catholic kindergarten program?
Although Saint Denis Church, (the Ark & Dove,) and Saint Aloysius, (Happy
House), offer students a wonderful education, we are not associated with
them. Students coming from any and all kindergarten programs, both public
and private, are equally considered for first grade positions.
