Grant Applications:  Discussion.

Allison has tried to reach and get specific information from Dr. Thomas.  She asked for minutes of October meeting where grants were discussed as well as when the next district SLT meeting is.  She also asked for a listing of rejection/acceptances of other grants.  She was told to speak to Mr. Olavarria.  She was told that there were no minutes from the October meeting where the grants were discussed.

It was understood that because our “grant” was for equipment, it was denied as the district is working under a “contingency” budget and equipment cannot be purchased.  However, it was noted that another school did receive a grant for a “cart.”  Our grant was denied and we were told that we could not resubmit as we missed the deadline.

It was discussed that Mrs. Staudohar, Mrs. Yeager, Mrs. Lainchbury and Mrs. Bukofsky would explore resubmitting another grant application/improvement project.  For example, if we are not able to receive funding for equipment, maybe we can submit a grant for our Character Ed program, Math Carnival, Accelerated Reader, etc.

Further, we have not been able to get access to our originally deposited Box Top funds of approximately $500.  We will further explore how we can get access to these funds for Gayhead.  Reimbursements for ribbons for Character Ed as well as maintenance for our Accelerated Reader program were both denied.

Skate Night – Is there a date scheduled?

Allison and Mrs. Johnson will run.  Allison to check dates, but otherwise all set.  Any skating party $ will go to the Math Club for the Math Carnival.

Discussed and requested that if anyone has any ideas, please bring forward and we can look into.

Agenda - November 25, 2008

Sign In:  Allison Lainchbury, Mr. Baird, Mr. Olavarria, Mrs. Dollard, Mrs. Granuzzo, Mrs. Yeager, Mrs. Bukofsky, Miss. Maiello, Mrs. O’Gorman, Miss Ferrara, Mrs. Johnson, Mrs. Irvin, Mrs. Staudohar, Mrs. Smith.

Grant Applications:  Discussion.

Allison reported that at the district meeting the grants had been reviewed and approved. There had been discussion, however that due to a contingency budget that there could be a problem with our grant because it is for equipment.   Allison advised that she was vocal at the meeting and said that we should have the ability to resubmit if there was a problem with a grant for equipment.  SLT members advised that if this was the case to think about other ideas.  Allison could provide information re: other schools and their grants.

November - ELA Parent Information Night

It was a great success with an increase in attendance.  Discussed that after the new year and ELA testing, we would see if it is feasible and helpful to have math assessment night.  In the past this type of information night had not been well attended.

Reading A-Z + Ed Helper

·        Do we have both or only one subscription?

We have two subscriptions.  Anyone can use the library account.  Survey done last year and subscriptions were determined based on grade level responses.

·        Accelerated Reader invoice to update the system?

Accelerated Reader:  IBM Grant $1,000

Maintenance program. Fee is now $249, and NOT $149.  Technical support.

·        PTA did receive another grant for this program maybe they could do the maintenance for this year?  We will ask PTA if they can pay for maintenance.  If not, we will have to readdress.

School Store and Math Club:

  • Starting November, Mrs. Burger and Mrs. Zeoli.  Started.

Other Grant Outlets:

Need to review if anyone has access to other grant websites so we can start looking for additional money.  Mrs. Healy found one site.  Please pass on if you come across one.  We can look into it.

Campbells:

  • Campbell’s catalog voucher who decides?

Should we look into classroom books to be shared or Gym equipment that all can use?

Discussed that classroom with the most activity, should be the classroom to decide how to use the vouchers.

Take Home Science:

Needs to be totally redone, Mrs. Staudohar has the supplies and will start hopefully when we return from break.

Skating Party

Believe it is on the calendar for Feb. 6, 2009.  Need to check.

Math Night Carnival:

Mrs. Ferrara and Mrs. Johnson discussed some ideas, i.e., use the math club, make it low key, contests, perhaps after school (math club already meets after school),  3rd graders could play the games.  Because of math testing, preparations could be done in April and the carnival in May the Carnival.  On going.
