| Right now we are in the midst of our second unit of work focusing on computation. While calculators
will often be used in the future, having a solid foundation of how to compute by hand is very
important. Students will continue to practice with their chosen method for multiplying and dividing
whole numbers and decimals. We will also review how to add and subtract with decimals. Another
focus of this unit is on problem solving. Students will learn various strategies in order to attack word
problems and those extended response questions on the OAT. With appropriate strategies, they can
solve anything! We will also work with exponents in the coming weeks. After Thanksgiving break, we
will be moving on to a unit on algebraic thinking, challenging but fun!
