Wow! One fourth of the year already gone. Time flies when you are having
fun! 6th grade science students are beginning to explore themselves in a
whole new way beginning with the smallest building block of all living things,
cells. Students are currently discovering the many organelles that make up
cells and the interrelationships necessary for those cells to form tissues,
organs, and organ systems. Students will continue to study body systems and
explore their genetic makeup with cellular reproduction. They will compare
the differences between both sexual and asexual reproduction as it applies to
both plants and animals, and finally we will discuss the benefits to genetic
selection as it applies to farming and disease control.
Summative Assessment over cells coming up on Wednesday, November 12, 2008
This assessment will cover both plant and animal cell diagrams, the organelles
and their functions/jobs, and Part 3 in their Cell Packet dealing with cell
discovery.
