As we start school again, the students are involved in all aspects of music: Listening,Playing,Creating, Analyzing.
They are working on the keyboards, computers and percussion instruments. They are singing and dancing, playing and listening. They are re-telling stories and adding music to them. They are learning song that can be signed.
Wherever possible, they are connecting what they do in their classroom with what they are doing in music.
Hang on! We've only just begun!

                                                                  November/December

As we enter the holiday season, we have a lot of activity going on. What I'm most pleased about is that all the students are very engaged in creating music. The computer program for grades 1-3 has been going very well. I've recorded grades  2 and 3 and we have listened to them in the classroom. We're now starting to revise our works and create new ones using what we've learned so far. If you want a copy of their creation, send in a cd.
K is starting to work on a Thanksgiving presentation which will be held the Tuesday before thanksgiving.
1st grade is starting their "Holidays Around the World" show which will be held Dec. 10 at the high school (6:30pm).
3rd grade continues work on their study of world cultures. Their presentation will be Nov.19 at Stevenson.

                                                                  Music Notes - Jan./Feb. 2010

2nd and 3rd graders have moved on to working with Garage Band - a music composition tool on the computer. It's an exciting program and every student becomes very engaged in the creative process. The program is only found on Macs. I record their pieces and we listen to them in the classroom.

1st grade continues to work on Groovy - a composition program on the computer.

All grades continue to create and perform songs on the keyboards and rhythm patterns on the drums. They are also learning new folk dances as well as making up their own dances. I bought a flip camera that I will use to video the students and they can watch how their creations take shape.

We have been listening to some new music using Youtube in the classroom. We have also discovered a lot of interesting dances on that site

                                                               March/April 2010
