How long will my child have to be in Speech Therapy?
Most children are in Speech Therapy for 2-3 years. This varies from child
to child. Some only need one year, some need much longer. I have found
that the earlier I can start working with a child, the less time it takes to
correct the problem.
What can I do to help my child at home?
Practice, practice, practice! If your child is in Speech Therapy, set aside
time each day to practice the skills learned in therapy, and model good
speech for your child. If your child is in Special Reading, spend at least
10-15 minutes reading with him/her each day. The more you practice at home,
the quicker your child can be dismissed from the program.
How often will my child receive Speech Therapy every week?
Most children are seen for 20 minutes, twice a week. The time varies
depending on the child's needs.
What will my child miss in the classroom during speech time?
I work with each child's teacher so that he/she is not taken out during
instructional time in the classroom. Usually, I see students during seat
work time. They still have plenty of time to complete their work. If you
have a concern about what your child will miss, please contact me so that we
can work out the best time for your child.
