About The Librarian/Media Specialist
Mrs. Thayer shares information about and appreciation for books and
other media with students in grades K-8 during once weekly visits. The
library is open before and after school, MONDAY-THURSDAY, to check out books
and magazines and to take Accelerated Reader quizzes. (A.R.IS OPEN FRIDAY).
Objectives of the Library
The primary objective of Norwalk Catholic Elementary School Library is to
implement,
enrich and support the educational program of the schools. To this end the
Advisory Board of Norwalk Catholic Schools reaffirms the Learning and
Teaching
Principles of School Library Media Programs prepared jointly by the American
Association of School Librarians and the Association for Educational
Communication and Technology.
1. The library media program is essential to learning and teaching and must
be fully integrated into the curriculum to promote students' achievement of
learning goals.
2. The information literacy standards for students learning are integral to
the content and objective of the schools' curriculum.
3. The library media progarm models and promotes collaborative planning and
curriculum development.
4. The library media progarm models and promotes creative, effective, and
collaborative teaching.
5. Access to the full range of information resources and services through
the
library media program is fundamental to learning.
6. The library media program encourages and engages students in reading,
viewing, and listening for understanding and enjoyment.
7. The library media program supports the learning of all students and other
members of the learning community who have diverse learning abilities,
styles, and needs.
8. The library media program fosters individuals and collaborative inquiry.
9. The library media progarm integrates the uses of technology for learning
and teaching.
10. The library media program is an essential link to the larger learning
community.
