December 1
Welcome back! It is hard to believe that we only have three weeks of school before we will be
enjoying our Christmas break. There is still so much that I would like to get through these
next few weeks. Your kids and I will be working very hard these next few weeks.
The November prayer needs to be recited by this Wednesday, December 3, or the student will
receive an academic warning.
The December prayer is the Joyful Mysteries which can be recited at any time.
Reminder--there is still plenty of time to volunteer for Bingo. Our month is March.

Math
vocabulary words: order of operations
We have begun chapter 9 which deals with both multiplication and division. Students will work
on balancing equations and following the correct order of operations. A test is tentatively set
for Friday, December 12.
Language Arts
We will continue to read The Best Christmas Pageant. Students are working on writing in a
complete sentence--I know this is a difficult skill for some students; I also realize that this
is something the students will be expected to always do in fifth grade so I am hoping to prepare
them for that.
We will also be reviewing letter writing this week. We will review the five basic parts of the
letter and writing addresses correctly. Our class will be writing letters to service men and
women. I would like to mail them out at the beginning of next week in the hopes that they will
recieve them before Christmas.
This week's Free Writing is Treasures--the treasures we have been given from God and how we can
make the most of them.
Spelling
Unit 14--consonant sounds--/j/, /ks/, /kw/
Social Studies
We will finish up the chapter on Monday. We will complete the study guides on Monday and spend
the week reviewing for the test as well as working on map skills. The chapter 4 test will be on
Friday, December 5.
Religion
The next chapter is all about the Commandments and the Beatitudes. We will be discussing the
many treasures that have been given to us by God and how we use them. This week's Free Writing
is based on this as well. The students will fill out a study guide on the chapter at the end of
this week and will have the test on Tuesday, December 9.
