What kind of questions are on the OGT?

The OGT organizes questions into three or four catagories depending on what
is expected. For example, the OGT will ask a question that is considered
SHORT ANSWER. This requires a two to three sentence response. The OGT will
also ask EXTENDED RESPONSE QUESTIONS. This requires the student to supply a
well developed paragraph with supporting facts, examples and details. In
some cases, the students will have to respond with a FORMAL ESSAY. This is
typically a three to five paragraph essay that contains a thesis statement
and supporting paragraphs. Finally, the OGT will require students to
respond to MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS.

What are the advantages and disadvantages to these types of questions?

DISADVANTAGES- The written responses require students to have a solid
understanding of the question. The level of difficulty is obviously higher
and the students must have a firm command of the writing process in order to
be successful.
ADVANTAGES- One of the major advantages to these types of questions is that
they allow a student to gain partial credit for a response that is close.
Multiple choice questions are either right or wrong. There is no in between.
