WGH THEATRE TROUPE |
FAQFrequently Asked Questions: This page contains answers to common questions of students and parents.
How do I become a member of the WGH Drama Club? First you must be eligible. . . You MUST have at least a 1.8 GPA on your last report card. This is Board of Education policy. We want you to participate but your education is more important. GET THOSE GRADES UP AND KEEP THEM THERE! Then, participate in productions and workshops. When you audition for a show, indicate on your audition form all the ways you are interested in participating. We try to find something for everybody, so if you don't get an onstage role, you will still be able to participate. How do the directors cast the show after auditions? * They start with your audition score, usually an average of the scores. * They then consider your experience in theatre, especially with the WGH DRAMA CLUB. If they have never seen you before, they are VERY cautious about how they cast you. If they have had experience with an actor, was it good or bad? AND they consider not just what goes on onstage but also backstage . . . they DO know who causes the uproars and dissent among the cast. Also, they consider how much the "experienced" actor puts into the show, including regular attendance, set construction, following through on responsibilities ....etc. * The Director has a vision for each of the characters and decides who will best be able to give us that. If the character interacts closely with another character, they look for pairings that will give us the most. * Lastly, they consider what grade each actor is in, Freshmen have 3 more years but for Seniors this may be it. Therefore, Seniors are more likely to receive a role of some sort but NOT NECESSARILY A MAJOR ROLE. How many opportunities are there for Freshmen? There are many opportunities for students at all grade levels. Freshmen need to be willing to start at the bottom and work their way up. In fact, over the last few years we have had SO many people audition that in the future we are planning to require Freshmen to do an "internship" and serve as student directors, ushers, etc, before we allow them an onstage role. This allows them a chance to learn how the organization operates and to appreciate the overwhelming responsibility that falls of each person in a production. AND to get school under control... we lose a lot of Freshmen who can't handle school AND extracurricular activities. You are here to get an education, we are here to help make it fun and meaningful. You do your part and we will do ours. Who determines what shows the WGH Drama Club does? The director makes the final decision after carefully considering cast size and requirements in relation to potential actors.
