In your child's folder this week there should have been a stapled paper with
a calendar and a book list. There was also an explaination of the new
reading program we are starting at Lakehoma. You child will need to get a
total of 5 points from any of the categories on that page; for example, take
1 ar test, talk about a book they read at morning meeting, draw a picture of
one of their books(favorite part, etc.), know their sight words for that 9
weeks, etc. That would equal more than the 5 required points. I can see
students doing this in a week....the 5 points are just a starting point. They
get credit for whatever they do that month. Everyone that makes 5 points
will be allowed to eat in the classroom at the end of the month. There may
be other surprises along the way...the main goal is for my students to read a
lot of books and to branch out with different genres of books (fiction, non-
fiction, award books, magazines, etc.) We know that the more they read, the
better readers they become! I can't imagine anyone not making this goal and
am looking forward to hearing about their books during our morning meetings
each day! :-)
Thanks parents for attending conferences and for all you do with your
children. It was so nice visiting with you all!
We are reviewing short vowels this week in reading and introducing long a.
Keep reading with your child each night. That helps so much!
New spelling words on Monday. They are doing so well. In a couple of weeks
we will divide spelling groups. Your child will know which group of words to
study. I want to give them a couple more weeks to get used to taking tests.
We are working on addition math facts from 0-10, plus time in Math.
This was Red Ribbon Week. We were so lucky to have Trinity's daddy come
visit our classroom to talk about his job. Thanks for coming!!!
It appears that the flu and strep have hit our room! Please remember to keep
your child home until they are fever free with no medication for 24 hours.
Thanks!! I am spraying table tops each afternoon as well as door
handles, coat hooks, and water fountains each day after the children leave.
Remember that they are allowed to bring a water bottle to drink from each
day. This may help deter the spread of the flu bug!
We are Table 1 this week in the cafeteria. We are working hard to get that
trophy!! We have earned the trophy once, but it would be nice to win it
again. :-)
Congratulations to Braxton and Brynnen! Braxton is our Citizen of
Character for October (Self-discipline) and Brynnen is our wonderful
writer! They will be recognized at Rise and Shine Monday! Great job, guys!
We still have snack each day after specials. They eat at 10:45 (brunch)
so they are hungry by 1:40. Thanks for sending a snack with your child.
Remember that they can bring a water bottle from home to drink during the day.
We have 19 students now.
I am really enjoying your children. Thanks for sharing them with me this
year! Keep reading to your child. See you tomorrow!
